Let me add my name to this list. And what the heck are u supposed to do if you are away from your Mac?

I had the same problem, 500 miles away from the mac I sync with and can't listen to music, watch video on my iPad after upgrade. So I plugged in my ipad to another computer that had itunes and only agreed to sync the things I have bought... it worked. I now have video and music on my ipad... good luck to all

Doing a fresh "Sync" should work, did for me.

Here's how to fix the problem:

    1. Connect to your computer
    2. Open iTunes
    3. Select your iPad under 'Devices' on the left side of iTunes
    4. Click 'Synch' in the lower right corner of iTunes
    5. Do not power off computer or iPad, do not disconnect iPad, do not cancel Synch - let it run until Synch is complete

Me too, and a hard reset doesn't work. I'm on a plane, no access to a Mac. Not sure why apple gets this so wrong and gets away with it. Total incompetence. If anyone has a solution outside of resync would be really appreciated.

I had the same problem, but I manage all of my media manually, so re-syncing is not an option. I fixed the problem by plugging in the iPad, deleting an album, and then replacing it.

I try to do a synchronization as is recommended, but I get a notice that ALL MY APPLICATIONS WILL REMOVE, I don't want to remove the applications so I cancel, and I can no se my podcasts.
    Any Ideas

    This is "attitude", right?

I sympathize with all who have similar issues and thank those who have tried to lend a hand. My take is that the sync process hangs on some apps and will also hang the cancel process. As I was near my Mac, I was able to solve the problem by removing all non system apps on the iPad... Manually on the iPad itself. Then restore those I wanted. I now get quick and clean backups.

    Ok
I had this after updating my iPad. I found an easy fix. Go to ANY iTunes computer and connect your pad, next just go to transfer purchases from iPad, you may get a message saying the pad is not authorised but this doesn't matter just say ok then disconnect and all your music will come back or at least mine did.

    Good luck

    Solved

Just connect iPad to iTunes, copy a movie (any) from iTunes to iPad, disconnect. Done.

Googlybearsmith's solution is spot on. This worked perfectly. Thank you!

I am travleling so unable to connect to a Mac, but my iPad is frozen in "canceling sync" mode. Should I try to reset the iPad or will I loose all of my content? Any help?

If by reset you mean the following you will not lose anything:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
