Airplay with Mac Mini

Will Air Play be compatible with a Mac mini? I have it setup as my entertainment unit. Would like to know if this will be compatible.

Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

I could also sit an old fm radio next to my mac mini or a crank phonograph. Lets not get sidetracked.

The issue at hand it to enable airplay video and music on macs that are hooked up to our home theater setup and not just the apple tv or airport extreme. There are many reasons why.

For example a certain ios app doesn't have web based online replacement that plays the same content or specific audio stream. (only can get this from the ios app)

My mini home theater has no keyboard/mouse and i don't want to have to VNC into it and and pan around to a website ect or use a remote app like hippo and have to change the tv source to the mac and again do "geeky stuff" wife term.

Wouldn't it be nicer to just click on the ios app and hit stream. No passwords no confusion about vnc into the mac or what source to change the tv to so i can see what i am remote controling on the mac. (your not always in viewing distance also) Kid and wife proof.

Also it would be nice to a stream content on the iphone walk into the living room and shift it to the macmini.

Of course this can all be done with a appletv or a airport express. But back to the point. Lets get this on the mac which we know could support if apple allowed it. I don't need to spend more money or use more audio ports on my stereo.

I'm totally on board with this. I want it for a different reason at the moment. I have 2 airport expresses and I can only stream from my iphone to 1 of them at a time. If my mac to take in the stream I could then push it to both of my AEs. I'm not on 4.3 yet so I don't know if they added streaming to multiple devices but I doubt it for some reason. The fact that they don't allow iOS devices to stream audio to original Apple TVs is a bad sign for them allowing it to macs. After all the original ATV ran os x.

People, all the suggestions are ok and all but most of you do not seam to understand how cool Airplay can be. I can use the Justin.tv app to watch video, use Airplay to send the video to my home theatre but still have the chat on the ipad. It's amazing. No solution here provides this functionality. Before someone chimes in with that new Mac OS X app Airplayer, it only works for the Apple Video player, not 3rd party apps.

I and we all know that Apple never promised this but please, you must agree this is an arbitrary decision on Apple's part and not one based on hardware limitations, code or any other thing.

I post this because I am hoping this new apple forum will be a helpful place and not a "well why don't you just do it this way, I do" place.

My 2 cents.

OK, problem solved. It's called AirServer. I's Mac OS X app and it's $2.99. http://www.airserverapp.com/

All is good in the world of Mac mini home media servers now.

Airplayer has been replaced with Bananatv. Even though the name doesnt say it it BananaTV streams music as well as video from all ios apps including 3rd party. It turns your mac mini into a appletv with no caveats.

BananaTV and AirServer do the same thing. You just need to choose if the 5$ more for BananaTV is worth it. Banana TV has some more customizations and options.

Couldnt agree more with your statement:

I totally agree with you, but the problem is, airserver requires a jailbroken ios device.

I really wish apple will create a simple, apple-like solution to all of this. A system wide thing that would:

A) allow me to AirPlay content from my mac to an apple tv

B) allow me to AirPlay content from my iPad to my mac

PLEASE APPLE!

K thanks bye.
