After i updated to 4.2 Nothing shows up when I load the ipod app. It just says " no content".

It will take me awhile to re-download my playlists and 300 songs.

iphone 4, iOS 4, NA

Same thing happened to me. I'm assuming it is because I did the update on my work computer instead of my home computer which is were I sync music, videos, etc.

Same here. I updated 2 iPhones and one iPod. All 3 were missing media in the iPod app after update (music, video, and podcasts. I just did a re-sync with each and the media reappeared. Interestingly, the re-sync only took a few second before it pronounced itself finished. It was almost like the media was already on each device, but it took a re-sync to make it visible........

Anyway, I'm back to normal on my 3 mobile devices.

I did a sync with itunes and it fixed the problem.

It looks like the music was there before but needed the sync to appear under the ipod app.

Same problem here and also same fix as already noted.

When looking at the music folder on the iPhone when connected to iTunes everything looked just fine/normal. However the iPod app on the iPhone itself said empty.

This probably explains why the sync happened so fast - the files was there all along. The iPod app just didn't realize this until after the first sync

A Sync after the update fixes the problem.

I restored to 4.2.1 and lost all of the music from the device - I thought that a backup would contain the order or a list of my music, meaning I could then easily sync up to the last state?

Apparently not. Pressing "sync" does nothing for me.

On the plus side, I get to purge my music collection...

You know, I had the same exact problem. Updated my phone to 4.2 and left the house went to play music and it was all gone!!! I was so upset! Turned it off and on, Reset it, re-synced, and still the same problem. All the music showed up while synced but not with iPhone alone. Until!!! While it was synced I played a couple of the songs that appeared to be still in my iphone library. I then gave up thinking i would just have to restore to factory settings and just start over. but one last try and shock of all shocks my music reappeared! Dont know if it was just a fluke but I wanted to share the info in case there is something more to it. Good luck Iphone users! I hope you find some relief from your problems as I have
