If after you update to 4.2 your iPod app seems to be devoid of media...

...I may have an odd solution.

After updating to 4.2, my iPod app was empty, but in iTunes all of my music, podcasts, and video appeared to still be on my iPhone. I disconnected my iPhone and restarted it. The iPod app was still empty. I reconnected it to my Mac and iTunes still showed the media. Then out of curiosity I selected a song on my iPhone in iTunes and hit play. The music started playing on my Mac and my iPhone lit up with the 'syncing' message for half a second. I reopened the iPod app on my iPhone and for a second or two it displayed the 'updating library' message. All of my media was there.

Just FYI.

I second this problem-

Updating to 4.2, and now my iPod app says "No Content You can download music from iTunes"
But in iTunes, it shows that I have 4.6 GB of music on there...

I unfortunately didn't have the same luck with playing a song in iTunes. The song plays, but the iPhone doesn't seem to realize anything's up.

So here's what worked (i think)

-Play a song on the iPhone from iTunes.
-Sync iPhone again
-Re-open iPod app

and my content is back.

Weird bug!

Had this same issue, re-connected my iPhone after turning it off/on, did that one second "Syncing" flash it does when you first connect and my content was back.

All 944 songs, 8 audio books, 6 podcasts and 13 videos are present after update of my iPhone.
None of what you posted happened.

I had the same issue...

It only needed to Sync to get the content back.

Same thing happened to me as well .... no songs in my ipod app ! Before getting totally ****** I checked here first..... I had to resync and play a song thru itunes from the phone and luckily they all showed back up......

Thanks for the tip guys. I had the same problem. So I followed the steps above, and all music, movies, etc. now appear in my iPod app. Thank god!

Ya same thing happening to me now. Will try some of these tricks listed here to try to resovle the trouble.
I love it when Apple beta tests their software on the public. :o(

Same here. In between updates, I unchecked and then rechecked the sync music checkbox under the Music tab, and then re-updated. Worked for me.

Had the same problem; nothing showing up in iPod app. Did what you said. Played song in iTunes and did Sync. All good now. (Maybe playing an App Store tune wasn't necessary; maybe it would have just worked if I'd just done another Sync...)

I had this problem long before 4.2. My solution has always been to disconnect the iPhone, restart iTunes, reconnect the iPhone, and sync again. I currently sync to a PC running Windows 7. Now I check for media in my iPod app every time I sync. It happens once in a while. I thought it was an iTunes update that caused this. Plus I'm using a PC...
