iPhone 3G better performance on iOS 4.2?

So I didn't know 4.2 was coming today and I downgraded my moms 3G to 3.1.3 yesterday. It's night and day from iOS 4.0 which is what she had. Of course she lost her contact and pics but I can get it back once I update to the newest version. I wanted to know before I updated to 4.2 to see how it's working on everyones iPhone 3G. How's it responding to open safari, settings, apps, texting, emails? Thanks!!!!

4.2.1 does make a positive difference on my 3G. BUT...the calendar is still slow and with odd behavior - just like in 4.1, but different than in 3.x. From a non-calender app, open the calendar. See your appointments. Appointments go away - calendar there, but not populated with appointments. Wait...wait...appointments reappear automagically. Ugh. Not waiting for 4.3, I don't think. Anyone else? I'm using Exchange to sync my calendar.

O M_FG! I hate that so much! I have to look at my calendar several times a day and it's become extremely annoying waiting for appointments to finally load. I was smart enough to skip 4.0... after waiting a week and reading feedback - but then foolishly figured Apple would have solved the issues with 4.1 and and so said goodbye to 3.1 went in without feedback. Terrible.

Anyway... with 4.2:

So you're telling me the Calendar app is no better at all then? If true... want to take phone out to remote open field in the country... kill phone.

What about txt? Does it still take 10+ seconds to load and then 10+ seconds before you can actually type followed typing lag?

Well, so far my 3G is much 'snappier', but who knows how long that will last.

Bringing up notes is much faster, getting a keyboard is much faster, the chinese handwriting keyboard is much faster.

Uh oh, maps doesn't seem to be much better.

Mail works pretty well, can't tell if that's much faster.

Camera: definitely faster

safari: seems faster, hard to tell

Phone: can't connect to voicemail ⚠ (may be a coincidence)

The calendar still takes a while to load, but I think that has more to do with the way the syncing works than with the speed of the hardware/software.

app store: no apparent difference.

voice memo: got a new icon, but otherwise completely the same, which is too bad, I had hoped they would make some interface improvements.

ipod: no apparent difference

VERDICT: Overall much much better.

My two cents since yesterday upgrade:
- Overall: my 3G is faster with 4.2.1 iOS than the 4.1 iOS
- Settings button: it opens faster now than before
- Camera... opens 3 times faster as before, but closing it... weird animation, looks likes it try to hang the app..
- Photo's ... much better performance..
- Maps... ohhh my god what took that long under 4.1 before it was loaded... perfect now !
- Agenda, still slow, but this is due to the Google App server, that has to sync first
- still several of my apps are opening slower on this 4.2.1 as that they did under the 3.x version iOS
- Mail: Performance the same as before
- Not possible to use the "find my phone" because not working for this version.. only Iphone 4
- Reboot of my 3G takes longer than under previous iOS versions
- You must do a Sync first with Itunes, before you can use the ipod on the phone...(weird..)

Not everything is working as expected, but my overall Conclusion: I'm a happy camper again...
