Audio Only with Netflix, Browser video and other problems

• Audio Only when using airplay from Netflix
• Audio Only when using airplay from embeded video like youtube and Vimeo

Setup: I have an Apple TV 2 /w 4.1 (2010) networked with an Airport Extreme /w Dual Band. iPhone 3GS and iPad with with 4.2.1 Installed.

If I try to use airplay with the methods above I only get audio (no video)

• I also ran into an issue using airplay on the iPad. Airplay does not seem to work consistently.

If I launch the music player on the iPad and enable airplay it often won't work. I Have better luck by double clicking the home button and sliding over to the iPod controls and enabling airplay that way. I don't know why there would be a difference between these two methods.

both my iPhone 4 and iPad are having a very inconsistent experience enabling AirPlay.

At first, the iPhone did not see any of my Expresses or AppleTVs (both 2nd gen). Now the iPhone sees all the devices when playing back music.

The iPad, however, is only seeing my bedroom appleTV and bedroom airport express. I rebooted EVERYTHING (airport extreme, expresses, ipad, iphone), and still the iPad can't see all my devices.

This is really buggy...it's unfortunate that it got released this way..

Airplay works with YouTube and iPod on my iPad.
When using Netflix on my iPad, selecting AirPlay results in only the audio being transferred to my AppleTV. The video does not transfer and continues to play on the iPad.
Netflix support advised they could not help because AirPlay is an Apple issue and not the Netflix app.

The developers of Quicktime / Safari? This happens for all embedded video.

Yes, this is true. I was more referring to third party apps when I said what I said. It seems that the only two apps that work are YouTube and the Videos app, both which are factory installed Apple apps. Yes, Safari is also a factory installed Apple app but it appears that at this point in time it is limited to audio only streaming.

Like I had said before, I see this as less of a bug and more of an issue of lack of support. I'm sure it will be eventually supported later down the road (hopefully sooner than later!)

Started out trying to stream Netflix movies through apple TV but it took ages to load, stopped frequently and even crashed. Thought it might have been a Netflix problem but then I could stream movies just fine through my PS3 console. So then I thought I could play Netflix movies on my iPad and use Airplay to send to my TV. However this produced sound only.
This is disappointing since Apple promotes Netfilix through its new apple TV system and yet it doesn't support it? Just a note, the Netflix through appleTV worked just fine until the recent update. Apple needs to provide another update to fix this.

Apple advertises and supports a built in front end to access Netflix. If it is slow or lagging it is possible your Apple TV had a poor connection to the network at the time.

Apple never advertised or promoted the ability to stream Netflix through Airplay as far as I know. This will probably be a feature supported down the road, when Netflix updates their iPad app to utilize the new AirPlay API. They are 2 separate issues.

I also have this problem with Netflix and AppleTV. I try to launch a show and it just spins and spins and never launches...or it starts playing and then freezes and quits after a minute or two.

It's not a problem with my internet connection because i was able to stream some shows and movies from Netflix to AppleTV but not others. And the same Netflix shows that I can't watch on AppleTV, I can stream onto my iPad and Wii. So it's possible to stream these shows from Netflix over my wireless connection, it's just not possible for them to run on my AppleTV.

So I also tried to use my iPad to run the movie and then project it onto AppleTV, but I also only heard sound...no video. I have updated all of my software and restored/reset everything a couple of times on AppleTV and Netflix, but it doesn't help. I even tried exchanging my AppleTV but that didn't help either.
