IOS 4.2 - where did my notes go ?!??!

iPad. Upgraded from latest v3.x to 4.2;

I opened notes, and it just says "new note"

I have a LOT of notes, I use the heck out of them - help? Are they gone forever (in which case, head explodes), or am I missing something?

You're not talking to Apple. You're talking to a group of users, who volunteer to help each other. A bit of politeness would get you further, instead of "Helloooooo, where's my data!!!"

But I would recommend that you
1) see if your notes are on your desktop computer. If so, copy them into a safe duplicate location.
2) Resync your ipad with your computer and see if the notes sync back onto your iPad.

Did you do a full back-up of your iPad before installing the update? If so, you should also be able to get them back by restoring to the back-up.

Apple should be reading this stuff - that's lame as can be. I hope you're wrong, and if you're not, total Apple fail. Not your fault, of course. And I wasn't being impolite. I'm panicking, which is something else entirely.

1) The notes app I'm familiar with on the desktop is something completely different... it puts stickies on screen. Is there another notes app?

2) I've synced. No notes.

3) Yes, I synced before I upgraded to 4.2 (more than once now)

4) If I restore to the backup, will I lose the new OS?

While there are Apple employees who read and post in this forum, they do not provide official technical support nor represent Apple in any way while posting.

I've only synched notes with Outlook, not the sticky notes. Are you referring to the iPad notes App, or a third party app?

I'm not sure if the backup will restore 3.2.2 or not - I've never done it while between operating systems. However, of youve lost your notes and can't find them anyplace else, and really need them, it's worth it to restore the old backup and get your notes back, and then worry about updating. 🙂

Notes have changed with the update. They are now account specific. If you open the Mail app on your Mac and look under "Reminders/Notes/On my Mac" you should find your old notes--providing you haven't somehow deleted them with your multiple syncs.

I use MobileMe which makes it very easy--my notes are always synced to all of my iDevices--but if you do not use MobileMe you can sync notes on the iPad. Examine "settings/Mail, Contacts, Calendars/account" for one of your email accounts. You should have a slider that enables/disables notes for that account. After enabling notes if you execute the Mail app again and copy all of the notes from "On My Mac" to "XXX" where XXX is the account name found under Reminders/Notes.

For example, I have an email account named "MyMail" where I receive email on both the Mac and the iPad. On the iPad when I look at the settings for that account and turn on the Notes slider then execute the Notes app on the iPad I see an account named "MyMail" with a Notes selection below it.

On the Mac when I execute Mail.app I see Reminders/Notes/MyMail. Any notes that I create/place in that folder will be synced to the iPad when I manually sync.

Of course, after going to MobileMe that is all taken care of automatically for my MobileMe account so I have moved all of my notes to the MobileMe area and no longer have notes enabled under the other email accounts I have on the iPad/iMac.

I cannot sync notes at all in V3.x or V4.x
Using a windows PC, and did notice in Itunes, where I have the Notes checked
I do not see anything in the window underneath it.

but also was reading that this is Windows 64 bits problem (??)
with 32 bits it's working fine...
So I guess it might never be fixed(?)
waiting now for 6 months for a fix.

I had iOS 4, and was syncing my notes with MobileMe. Then I tried to update to iOS 4.2, but for some reason my iTouch got bricked. Luckily, Time Machine saved me; I restored some old backups and an old keychain with the password, updated, restored from backup, etc.

Then I went to the Notes app, and all my notes were gone! So I thought, okay, I'll just cycle note syncing and hit the replace option. So I went to Settings / Mail, Contacts, Calendars / MobileMe, but there is no longer an option to sync notes!

Is there some kind of hidden preference or something, or do I just have to downgrade? If I do have to downgrade, which is the latest version of the iOS that still has MobileMe note syncing?

IOS 4.2 - where did my notes go ?!??!
