How to get the switch back to LOCK mode

Ok, I hate that Mute thing, I want my Lock screen back...how do I do that?

I have several apps, that are sentive for rotating screen, so I used that button.
also when I am on a bumpy road... the darn screen keeps flipping on me..

HELP

Ipad 64Gb Win7 64bits, Windows 7

For now all you can do is to use the software lock instead: double click the home button, then slide the tray all the way to the right so that you can see the far left portion of it and use the button there. To tell apple you want it back, go here:

See if you still have a copy of the last update, 3.2.2 on your computer, it is the only way to get the lock screen button back, but no guarantee going backwards will work. Plus you will lose folders, multitasking, Airprint, Airplay, etc.

You do know that if you double-click the Home button and slide to the left there is a lock screen button?

You can still lock the screen. Tap the Home button twice to bring up the multitasking bar, then swipe to the left. This will bring up the volume/brightness controls. On the left hand side is the screen lock. It will stay locked until you unlock it again the same way. Extra steps, but it works.

what a pain..
why couldn't they make the Mute button over there..

What if your app doesn't like double-tap the home button...
thought about that Apple??.. probably not..

It has to. Apple is very severe about developers trying to subvert the hardware features for other purposes, so I wouldn't worry about that part.

And since all apps have to conform to the SDK I'm sure Apple did think about that.

It is if you use it more than the mute button. I agree, there should be an option for which option you wish the switch to operate.

Well, I use it a lot..
didn't tried it yet, since it's still installing everything, but i sure hope
it stays and don't need to repeat that for every program i want to use.
then yes... it will be a pain..
since it's all done by software, I am sure if there are more people out there, that there will be an app out there, that will reverse it..

Apple pulls apps from the app store if they change what the buttons do, which is why it's important to let apple know what you want, since they're the only ones who can change it again.

Agreed! If I needed to use mute I would cut the speakers down with the volume control which is easily located right underneath the toggle that USED to be for the screen lock. They should've just left it alone instead of getting creative with an unnecessary sound on/off switch.

Holding down the volume button is not the same thing. The updated switch is an Alert/Notification mute, not a system-wide volume mute.

Do you mean if it only works for one app? No, it's for the entire device and stays in the same orientation until it is unlocked. It works the same way, just moved a different location.

(however, SOME apps, don't follow the orientation lock, regardless. That's a developer issue, and not an OS issue.)

Great tip! I was getting furious because of this modification with iOS4, but now that I know how to lock/unlock, it is only a matter of time to get used to.

Come to think of it, this new functionality of turning sound off/on with a physical switch is not that bad.

Me? The "mute switch" isn't muting anything - I get the "mute" icon but the music on iPod keeps playing. Anyone having this problem?
