The iPad software update server could not be contacted or is unavailable.

Hi,

I tried to update my iPad to iOS 4.2.1, but after I downloaded the update, it said it was verifying the update with Apple, and continued to do this for several minutes, then it said Apple's servers could not be reached. It then put my iPad into recovery mode, and told me I had to restore it, which I've tried to do multiple times, but all with the same result. Is there anything I can do?

I spent the better part of a day with this problem, including a talk with support people at Apple that were as stumped as me. The next morning (well, today), I took my Macbook and my iPad to someplace where I could try the restore from a different Internet connection, and lo and behold, it worked. So I guess my home network is the issue, although other Internet activity there seems unimpeded. Hope that helps...
