How to sync iphone automatically?

Although "Prevent... iphones....from syncing automatically" is UNchecked, iTunes does not automatically sync with iPhone; also in the iPhone Summary there is no more option to "automatically sync iPhone".

Are there any other settings to make iTunes sync automatically with iPhone?

MacPro 5,1, Mac OS X (10.6.4), 2x2.8, iTunes 10.0.1

I am still trying to figure out why my iphone is not syncing automatically when connecting it...

I have the exact same issue: iPhone 3G with 4.2.1, iTunes 10.1 (54) on the configuration indicated below, and for a few months (since around the 4.0 update, but I didn't take note when exactly) my phone has stubbornly refused to auto-sync when connected (with iTunes already started), I have to force a sync every single time.

The only way I managed to make my iPhone sync automatically is by checking "open iTunes when this phone is connected" (besides UNcheck "Prevent... iphones....from syncing automatically" in IT prefs).
Maybe they can fix this in a newer version (???)

connect ur device to the usb cable and plug it in. type in ur apple id in itunes and it should say ur devices name, and it will ask u to sync info
