Airplay Stops Working

Ok, so iv never had any problems with my airport express and streaming music over to the device. This has always worked perfectly up until this week really.

So here's a bit of a background to my setup. I have an airport Extreme and an airport Express. The airport express is extending the network created by the Extreme to the rest of the house. I also have a macbook pro and a PC, which are both commonly used to stream music to the Express.

So up until about this week I have been having some serious troubles with the audio side of things. After varying amounts of times playing back, but never more than a minute, the playback will just stop and not work again for a while. The computer is still uploading the song (i have a program that monitors how much is being uploaded), but the Express isn't playing it back.

Is anyone else having this problem? And have there been any solutions found?

I have tried resetting the device to its default settings and restarting the computers and iTunes with no success.

Thanks in advance.

Julian.

Set your Radio Channel Selection to Manual on the AirPort Base Station ( using AirPort Utility) and then click the Edit button. You can now set your own channels. Ofcourse not all channel's will be available depending on the region you live in. Ch 12/13 won't be available in North America. If you have too much interference, pick a 5 Ghz channel/wireless network.

This is driving me crazy. I have tried everything imaginable, even to the point of buying a new wifi router. Airplay will work some days just fine, and other days it just drops out constantly. Will there ever be a fix? I can't figure out if the problem is with my airport express, my wifi or the ipod touch or iphone. None of them indicate a failure of any kind, the audio just drops out. As an IT Manager I have spent years troubleshooting issues and this is one that is apparently unfixable.

Just to throw my pennies worth in...

I too am having airplay connection drop outs and slow response when using my iphone (3GS) as a remote.

It seems to be due to my 6 month old iMac. This evening I set up my works HP windows laptop to play iTunes through my Airport Express and it worked. It worked just by itself and it also worked when my iPhone was acting as the remote control. My iphone was also updated quickly with the track names and the artwork.

I also have an old iBook G4 which I used to use for Airplay, but has been gathering dust for the last 6 months. Surprise, surprise, it still sends the audio to the airport express without problems and can be controlled by the iphone again without problems.

Works windows laptop running iTunes 10.2.2.14

old iBook running iTunes 9.2 (61)

New(ish) iMac running Itunes 10.3.1 (55)

Airport Express running FW 7.5.2 but I had the same problems with 7.4.2

I'm going to call Apple tomorrow and I shall let you know the outcome.

I'm not sure if this is exactly the same problem, but recently when I stram music to my AE (I have two one is newest firmware the other is older) it will work fine for a time with occasional cut outs, but suddenly it will stop playing all together. When I go to my computer the Airplay icon in iTunes is missing. In fact if I look for Airplay on any of my devices (3gs or iPad2) there is no airplay available at all.

I have tried reinstalling iTunes, changing channels and nothing. The only thing that seems to clear the problem is to shut everything down and unplug/reset my router. I've had my AE's for about 4 or 5 months but this is a new problem.

I am using Windows 7 on a newer pc...open to suggestions.

Thanks

yep, almost same thing...In my situation it is not streaming to the Airport Express that is faulted, but the Marantz Na7004 (which is wired) . Worked great. since I use another networked (wired) machine, everytime that is powered on, Airplay to the na7004 stops after 1 or 2 minutes. Itunes can't use/or see the Na7004 anymore. I can restart Itunes and use the na7004, but it stops after 1 or 2 minutes.

When I unplug the new machine, it works flawlessly again. I'm on Lion, have all updates etc etc.

It seems some kind of networking protocol problem. Have looked into the router settings (DIR855) but can't find a setting that helps (tried it all). Maybe its Bonjour, but I can not find a place to adjust settings there?

hope someone can point me to networking/bonjour settings that might help. Multicast, QoS its all enabled. All on DHCS, nothing reserved. Leasetimes are not to expire, or 24 hours, dhcs-server is 1440 minutes.

Greetings,

this has been frustrating- It's hard to have a party at the house with constant interuptions in the music.

I read somewhere that IPV6 was the problem and that I should turn that off- BOGUS-

Finally in frustration I googled "Apple air play interption" where the tribal knowledge suggested changing the wireless settings on my router (Cisco 4200) to a specific channel rather that automatic mode. I picked channel 5- it's been over an hour with no interruptions- I really hope this is the hack to make it work. /Tim in San Jose
