Airplay Stops Working

Ok, so iv never had any problems with my airport express and streaming music over to the device. This has always worked perfectly up until this week really.

So here's a bit of a background to my setup. I have an airport Extreme and an airport Express. The airport express is extending the network created by the Extreme to the rest of the house. I also have a macbook pro and a PC, which are both commonly used to stream music to the Express.

So up until about this week I have been having some serious troubles with the audio side of things. After varying amounts of times playing back, but never more than a minute, the playback will just stop and not work again for a while. The computer is still uploading the song (i have a program that monitors how much is being uploaded), but the Express isn't playing it back.

Is anyone else having this problem? And have there been any solutions found?

I have tried resetting the device to its default settings and restarting the computers and iTunes with no success.

Thanks in advance.

Julian.

I'm having the same problem.

When I select the AirPort Express it will play for a short moment, then stop. When I switch back to the iMac I hear music, switch back to the Express music for a short moment. When I do nothing after a while it will play some more music, then stop playing.

I have an Intel iMac, a G3 iMac and an iPad, they all have the same problem. A few days ago it was still working fine. The AirPort Express reports a good connection.

Just want to add me to the list. If have a Wifi-network with two Airport Express and one Time Capsule. The wifi itself is working fine, I can download and copy data big amounts of data very quick, I can stream videos with an Apple TV 2G without problems, so I don't think it is a slow network problem. But AirPlay from an iOS device to an Airport Express is not working well:

1) Sometimes I have short interruptions of a second or two
2) Or the playback stops, and I have to press play again to continue ...
3) Or the playback don't stop, but the speaker is switching from the AirPlay speaker to the built-in speaker.

It seems to work much better, when I use AirPlay to stream music to the Apple TV 2G.

I'm having the exact same issue. The strange thing is it worked perfectly all this time until last week I don't understand what changed on the phone/airport express/or my home network that caused the issue.

Any solutions to this? It's really annoying to have the music cut out or just completely stop. Have you tried the new firmware for express? I'm downloading it now.

Same basic problem. Just writing to let Apple know.

I just got ATV v2 hoping for wireless connection to video projector and stereo. Audio steaming to ATV using itunes via airplay is choppy -- to the point of making it useless.

Video out from itunes on the computer to ATV works fine as does netflix. Internet connection is strong for both machines.

It seems like video send the content to the ATV and gets nicely buffered. Does music try to stream it real time? Why not use a buffer? Anyway if my connection can handle video streaming it really ought to be able to handle a 320kps mp3.

I did think to try using some newer 128kbs aac tracks... maybe that'd be easier... still though Apple. Lame.

Exactly the same here and almost identical equipment list... Airport Extreme, Airport Express, MacBook Pro, iPad, iPhones, iMac, etc. All has worked perfectly for past 5 or 6 years until the last few months. Now, I now suffer music dropout when streaming from any of the above devices. I also, occasionally, lose Internet to my MacBook Pro.

It goes without saying, I have done everything. Resetting, re-sighting, rebuilding, etc. The only thing that usually helps is if I put the laptop, iPad, etc., within a foot or two of the Airport Express. I haven't had to do this for the last 5 years though.

I can only think this has something to do with the latest iTunes release. Unless we all have faulty Airport Expresses!

Come on Apple. This needs sorting.

I am having the same problems posted here, very frustrating! Set-up is Intel Dual Core iMac 27" running latest iTunes using a 2-Wire 802.11N WAP, Airport Express connected to the stereo in the garage, Apple TV connected to the home theater and iPad and iPhone4 running the Remote App to control them all. Streaming music is hit and miss. Some days, works fine for hours, then starts to cut out. Other days, starts cutting out right away. Can go out for minutes at a time, then the iPad or iPhone cannot find my iTunes library again on the iMac when using the Remote App. The music cutting out is a deal breaker for me. I see strong signal strength on the Apple TV, so, does not appear to be wireless connection issue. When the issue occurs, it happens to both the Airport Express and the Apple TV connections at the same time, but the cutouts are not necessarily synched, only that both start cutting out during the same time frame and for the same lengths of time. What can be done about this? No one likes strobe-light music!
