    I have upgraded iphone OS to 4.2 but I am facing issues too with my apple apple id is an email address like but while adding the mobile me account from mail,contacts,calendars its not accepting the id.. its says this id cant be used for mobile me, pls user a different id..

    Is it because i have two iphones registered using the same apple id? Any pointers?

    I had to go to,log in, clicked "Manage Your Account", then in the second option on the right was to make my Apple ID match my Email Address. Before I just had the portion of my email before the Once I made them match, it worked.

    This wasn't explained well at all in the instructions.

    This fixed it for me too! Finally, have my appleID changed to be my email address and have Find my Iphone set up on my iPhone4.

    Appears that Apple screwed up and is using this as an excuse to get rid of IDs that aren't an email address. Obviously easier for them to support.

    Replying to self, because I went and changed my AppleID and now can't finish edit or finish the post.

    Appears that Apple screwed up and is using this as an excuse to get rid of IDs that aren't an email address. Obviously easier for them to support. I think the notice on about using your email as ID is new, i.e., came as a result of the Find My iPhone registration problem.

    I gave in and changed my ID to an email address. (Apple won't allow capitals in an email address as they did before. No big deal, but fits with making it simpler to support.) Now Find My iPhone works.

    I'm marking this as question answered, although the problem isn't completely fixed because Apple isn't being clear that they screwed up, and aren't giving clear instructions on how to make it work.

    Well sadly it does not present me with an option to change my AppleID.
    I've tried to change it via the Apple Store account pages, but it just reverts back to what it used to be.

    I had an email address as ID, but it still didn't work. I changed the ID now to a different email address of mine and now it works perfectly.
    I have no idea what this bug is about, but changing the Apple ID to some other email address of mine did the trick.

    Given that Apple is trying to consolidate things, it's amazing that you need different pages to change different things. My discussion group name isn't shown on the Apple ID page, for example.

    Yes, I've tried every page available, but either they don't alloew me to change the AppleID, or they simply don't update it after I edit it.

    My account goes way back to the first day of .mac being available - someone else mentioned that accounts this old may be locked?

    I had the same issues and I went ahead and deleted my mobile me mail on iphone and then reinstalled it. The functionality worked after syncing it back to mobile me.

    The other issue I have now is the "Recents" calls on the Phone apps is still not working. Good luck

    Loged in again this morning - did exactly the same as I did the previous 3-50 attempts, and this time it worked fine.

    Guess they got around to fixing it!

    I have the same problem. I have gone to the appleid site. and still it does not work. I have been with apple since the beginning. I can log in to apple id but I cant seem to get the mobile me to work so that i can get find my iphone. My id is a email address so that is not the problem.

    Not working...

    Steps tried:

    1) Find my iThing does accept non-email AppleIDs (further referred as nickname-AppleID). This is known.

    2) I used my other AppleID: (further referred as email-AppleID).

    3) Didn't still work, because I did not have a verified email address associated with my email-AppleId.

    4) Problem: my email address is already associated with my nickname-AppleID. According to Apple address cannot be associated to two accounts (why not?).

    4) Logged to and added email address to my email-AppleID. I also verified this address successfully to my email-AppleID.

    5) Just for sure changed password to comply with MobileMe password rules, which are like over 6 characters and has to contain letters & numbers (something like that).

    6) Added MobileMe account on iThing and the account was accepted.

    7) Problem persists: I cannot get verification email to my secondary address at all, neither to my primary? iThing keeps telling that verification email has been sent to, but I cannot be sure whether it refers to AppleID or actual email address.

    8) Why could they not just accept nickname-AppleIDs? FFS!

    Any suggestions? I would rather not create yet another id.

    UPDATE: I had to remove my address from the account and change the address (and AppleID) to my to get the Fnd my iThing to work. So the email-AppleID has to be same as Primary Email Address in Apple's db to get this working.

    F'n annoying...
