HDCP error using Airplay on ATV2

I can play YouTube content from inside ATV but when I try to Airplay it from my iPhone I get the HDCP error. This doesn't make sense. My TV's a two year old Sony Bravia but it must support HDCP for Youtube to play from inside ATV musn't it?

Even worse: when I tried Airplay with my iPad this morning for the first time, I could watch a video for 30 seconds and then the HDCP Error Screen appeared. After that no video was working anymore with Ariplay. Restarted everything. Steaming the same video from my MacBooc is working, but not via Airplay!!! I'm using a brand new Philips TV 9604 - I hope at leat the HDMI handshake Bug in Apple TV2 is fixed with the OS update (the green screen after some minutes).

I have a possible fix.

I had a similar issue in that I could stream content using HomeShare from a MacBook and could also stream content from the MacBook using AirPlay, but if I tried to use AirPlay to stream the same content from an iPad it would fail after 10 or 20 seconds with the HDCP error.

I called Support and they got me to reset the network connection for the iPad - just the network connection. After re-connecting the iPad (re-entering wifi passwords, etc) everything worked fine from the iPad.

You can check if its the iPad or AppleTv causing the issue by streaming over AirPlay from another device, if you have one.

I am using a new Apple TV, JVC A/V Receiver and a Samsung 1080p LCD TV. All are connected with HDMI cables (I have tried my expensive HDMI cables as well as the $19 Apple HDMI cable).

This is what I have been able to work out:

I can start the system up to allow the Apple TV to play HDCP content. To do this, I:
-Turn off the Apple TV
-Turn on the TV
-Wait until the TV is on and displaying
-Turn on the JVC Receiver and put it on the correct source (Apple TV source)
-Wait until the JVC Receiver is completely up (about 4 seconds)
-Turn the Apple TV back on

After this, HDCP content works.

When I turn off the Receiver, HDCP content stops playing, and will not play again.

I can remedy that by repeating the above, OR

-Turn off Receiver
-Unplug Apple TV HDMI from Receiver
-Turn on Receiver
-Wait until Receiver is completely up
-Plug Apple TV HDMI in to the back

After this, the HDCP content works again.

From what I have read, there is a handshake between ATV and the device it is connected to. I imagine what I am doing is ultimately forcing the handshake to happen in a way the Apple TV needs.

All in all, I'm a little ****** that I have to go through this every time I power down my home theater system. My other option is to wire the Apple TV directly to the TV, and use the optical audio out to the receiver. Not really wanting to do that, though...

Any help in this area from Apple or otherwise would be greatly appreciated.

I reset my iPad network connection (just had to reset (or was it delete), reselect and enter the password). Still didn't work, no iPad airplay working through apple tv at all. Then I accidentally chose "Name" under apple tv general menu and picked a name for this appletv (I have two in different rooms), then tried viewing a movie in the videos app and both movies worked, one an MGM movie bought through iTunes and one a iPhoto slideshow exported and added to iTunes. This TV is a Sony KDL-32XBR9. After trying to get airplay to work on my iPad for a few days, and googling a lot, I can't believe this is all I had to do. Hope this solution is helpful to someone.

I just purchased mine yesterday. When I first set it up it worked perfect. I then upgraded the software and immediately got the whole HDCP error message on everything I tried to play that was netflix. I restored the ATV to its original settings (it did an upgrade automatically when I resotred). It is working perfect now. The only thing I could see is that if you upgrade your software, there is some kind of error or conflict. I would try restoring it and while it is a pain to have to enter all the info in again, it is working perfectly. I hope this helps someone.
