Wont Connect to server to update my iPad

I have the latest iTunes, and im trying to update my iPad to 4.2. When I first tried it, iTunes put my ipad in recovery mode and started to verify with apple the software, then it came up an error saying, can't connect to apple update server. So now I am stuck with a iPad in recovery mode. Someone please help!!!!

Macbook, Mac OS X (10.6.4), 2.26 GHz Core 2 Duo 4GB Memory & 250GB HD
