iPod Touch 2nd Gen. / iOS 4.2 update, NO AirPlay!!!
I updated my iPod Touch 2nd Gen. this morning to iOS 4.2, and found that there is no AirPlay icon in ANY of my media apps (including the native players). There is also NO "text search" in Safari. I checked the "About" section on my Touch and it says I am indeed running 4.2. What gives??? Did 2nd Gen. users get left out again???
AirPlay works great on my 2G Touch with 4.2.1, so make sure:
a- You're connected to wi-fi, and the same network as your computer and/or ATV.
b- Make sure Home Sharing is enabled on your computer and ATV, and I think there is a "Home Sharing" setting on the Touch. I came across it last night, but for the life of me I can't find it now (could be because I'm not in wi-fi range at the moment?)
c- If you've done all that, try cycling the power of the Touch and/or Reset.
As far as text search in Safari, I think that is the field at the top right, next to the URL field.
Nope... none of the above worked.
home sharing is on
connected to the same network
tried power cycling
no dice on any front. no airplay button at all, in any app. safari search only gives google suggestions. I scroll to the bottom, and it gives me recent searches. nothing about searching in the page.
What am I doing wrong???
Uggh, maybe I got lucky -- AirPlay does work though if you have ATV2. You may have to Restore your Touch from a backup, or worse case Restore as a new iPod.
I have a 2G MB touch and I didn't get the search in Safari either. But I do have the AirPlay icon (square with a triangle) showing to the right of the play/pause and FF/RW buttons when I either watch a video or just double click the home button at the lock screen. If I click it it gives me the option of either my touch or my local Wi-Fi. I don't have any speakers hooked up to my Wi-Fi, so it doesn't really do anything if I choose that option.
I have 2 second generation iPod Touches and they both have Airplay.
Not sure what you have for Airplay?
Apple TV?
Airport Express?
or some type of compatible powered speakers that can use Airplay?
You need to have on of the above for the Airplay to show up I believe but not positive.
I have 3 Airport Expresses hooked up to 3 different stereos throughout the house and the garage.
When I open up my playlists and choose a song to play, then I am given a choice of what Airport Express I want to play to after hitting the Airplay button on the right of the volume bar.
I considered this. I do not have an airplay device to stream to, but I was quite surprised not to find any evidence of the feature in the OS (I thought the button would still show). So
maybe that explains part of my issue, although the original poster in this thread would still seem to be out of luck.
But what of the other problem? Is anyone else having trouble finding text in Safari?
I had the same problem - I took rockmyplimsoul's advice and did a reset - go to "reset" and hit "reset all settings". This does not delete content. After the reset I found the airplay icon next to the music track on the right hand side that was being played. Now streaming to my ATV2. Hope this helps and thanks to rockmyplimsoul.
More than likely it's an issue of having an "MB model" iPod Touch 2nd Gen. The MB models seem not to get the new goodies because they're too old. I have an MB model and never updated to iOS 4 for that very reason.
You need to make sure that if you are using AirPlay to connect to a PC or a Mac, that yo are both connected to the same WIFI network. if you are using it to connect to an audio system, make sure the device is compatible with your ipod. if your connecting to a cars audio system, make sure BlueTooth is turned on on both devices and that you are connected. when you load the music app, go to a song and ther should be a button on the right. click it and choose the device you wish to connect to. if BlueTooth isnt on turn it on. if you arent connected to WIFI connect to WIFI. Otherwise, GOOD LUCK!!
