Is there an adapter for the iPad so that I may use my flashdrives?

No, but there are workarounds for external storage like the camera connection kit and AirStash; try a search.
Before update ti iOS 4.2 I was able to use the CCK USB connector to download photos/video from a DCM folder on the stick. Now after the update I can no longer do that. Some sticks say too much power and other say no photos. Also before I could use my SanDisk 8-in-1 reader to get photos and videos from a DCIM folder on various storage media (MS, CF, SM). No I get the dra too much power error even with no media in the reader.
