AirPlay and Airport express

Hi, since I have difficulties to include my Airport Express in my Fritzbox router wifi network, I would like to stream music from my iPad and iTunes directly to the AE and speakers. Anyone knows if this is possible? The AE now has its own network. When I connect to that network, I get the AirPlay button and can connect to it. However: no sound...

Sounds like you have the same issue as me.

I have the icon, and an amp connected to my airport express. I can stream music flawlessly from iTunes on my uMacbook to the AE+Amp. Yet with iOS 4.2 I get no sound.

I have just done a complete wipe on my iPad, and tried it then but it's the same. I've run out of ideas.

I have an Ipad, Ipod touch (gen 2) and an Airport Express.

Playing music from PC via airplay: works perfectly
Playing music from PC via airplay, controlled by Remote on Ipad: works perfectly
Playing music from PC via airplay, controlled by Remote on Ipod: works perfectly
Playing music from Ipod using airplay: works perfectly
Playing music from Ipad using airplay: does NOT work

I hear music for less than 1 second, then nothing. If I select local ipad speakers and then airplay again, I hear another second of music, follwoed by silence.

All devices have been upgraded on the latest firmware, and all devices have been reset, but no joy - I have run out of things to try...

My express was purchased in August 2009 so not really old. I had considered that a firmware update could fix the issue, but I haven't seen one in absolutely ages.

The only other thing I am considering trying is digging out an old USB Router from my junk cupboard and trying that in place of my Netgear DG834N, which my AE connects to.

supreme commander of wireless pretty much sums up my probs in a nutshell.

I have the same problem. I want to stream from my iPad to my Airport Express. The iPad sees the AE, but there is no sound coming from the speakers attached to the AE. I go to my iTunes on my MacPro and music streams beautifully, but no success with the iPad.

Seems that other folks have the same problem.

The AE I'm streaming to is two months old.

Hi Verne,

I used to have a Speedtouch router to which I had connected my Airport Extreme, Time Capsule and Airport Express (wireless). Because of a new contract with my provider I had to replace my Speedtouch with a Fritzbox. Unfortunately, Apple and Fritzbox do not support eachother....

So now I have my Time Capsuled wired to my IMac and try to get AirPlay working through my AE, separately.

I begin to understand that this is a no go area...

Thanks, Richard

same issue. Can't stream audio from iPad using Airplay, to any device (AE or ATV2)

on top of this, if I attempt to stream audio from iPad to ATV2 or AE, the wifi on my ipad freezes up and will not work again until iPad is rebooted.

There seems to be an issue with AirPlay for audio from iPad only.

Works fine from iPhone.
Streaming video from iPad works well too (with audio)
