Unpredictable (fairly constant) kernal panic.

I've been getting the dreaded kernal panic crash more often than not these days and outside of the obvious (bring it in to be repaired/diagnosed) and the possibly costly (bring it in the be repaired/diagnosed), any help on this would be useful. I tried REMBER to check for bad memory, but to no avail. I have a number of external hard drives. Turn 'em off, and I still the get panic every so often. Any ideas?
