I have tried ALL fixes posted on this forum and others with absolutely no joy whatsoever, even the restore achieved nothing, except deleting all my data of course.

Just to verify, you did EXACTLY these steps:

1. Settings/General/Reset: Erase All Content and Settings
2. Reboot
3. Connect to iTunes
4. Click Restore
5. When asked, selected "Set up as a new phone"

After the restore, you did not create any email accounts and did not restore any apps. And you still see heavy battery drain? If so your phone is broken. Take it to Apple for a replacement.

I shouldn't have to but yes I did EXACTLY these steps:

1. Settings/General/Reset: Erase All Content and Settings
2. Reboot
3. Connect to iTunes
4. Click Restore
5. When asked, selected "Set up as a new phone"

I initially restored from backup, when this had no effect I set up phone as new, same problem.
2 days ago I reverted a family members phone that had the same problem to 4.1 and guess what - problem solved.

If my phone is broken, which I doubt, it was the update or update process that killed it and if this is the case then returning to 4.1 should have no effect. I will now go back to 4.1 and test for a couple of days to see if this is the case.

My guess here is that many of you do not run email or use what your saying and that the prospect of it last a full day on average usage does not actually occur like i said Lawarence lets see screen shots? then I will start to believe you yes i have done all those steps I am an engineer myself and I am fully aware of what is causing this its bad firmware.. and active sync.. Now you keep defending them and reposting the same thing.. It does fix some peoples phones just like a car 1 in 100 could be bad and yes I have replaced my 3 gs 5 times through different versions and different settings and oddly only one time my phone worked for over a day with really good usage but since then been getting worse each time.. yes software adds features and should be minor decreases depending on the phone your using but a brand new iphone 4 with no location , no email and push should not be getting under a day nor should it die 1 percent every text message you send if it was the phone I sure know alot of people with the same issue.. not buying it So just admit how much is apple paying you?

Have to say in the 8 days I have had my iPhone phone the battery life in has been poor. I have let it go flat a few times and then charged it. I think that is what is meant by Recycling The Battery? Not really helped.

I completely erased all data on Sunday and restored everything - no better. The whole phone died completely when I was out last night and only with the help of Igor, was I able to find out how to restart it by holding down the Power and Home buttons.

In the UK the weather is a little bad and I could not have even made an emergency call if I'd needed to. Must remember to take my old Nokia N95 with a Pay as You Go Sim with me now. It has made calls reliably for 4 years or so and although it does not have fancy graphics and stuff, it works as a phone. Maybe Apple has forgotten that's what it is supposed to be?

Very well said beagle .. yes its shame one has to bring another phone with them just cause there iphone dies when its in standby mode.. pure excuses on behalf of lawarenece and others here.. so lawarance should we have to carry more then one phone neven if we use it just to talk on?.. never knew an old phone when just used for those purposes not to last more then a day.. yet iphone 4 if u use it for half a day making calls it needs to be charged?.. Not buying the poor excuses there is a glitch in the firmware /active sync that is causing this constant lose of connection.. and i can prove that 🙂
