I had the same Batt. problems on my iPhone 4 ith iOS 4.2.1. My Battery was empty 4 times faster than before. So I tried everything and found a solution for me:

I have 2 APNs (one for my private setup and one for work) and switch with different profiles. My calender and contacts syncs with the work-profile (exchange). When I was in my private-profile and changed a calender or contact-entry, the iphone ran hot and the battery drains very fast. Switch bach to work-profile, and everything was fine.

So I think, that the iphone tries to synch changes in calender or contacts till the battery is emty. With fw 4.1 I never had this problems! The changes only tried to sync, when the server was reachable.

Sorry for my bad english - I hope you can understand what I mean!

Kind regards,
Robert

I noticed a better battery life after I update to 4.2.1 but after a month it starts to happen. I've tried to do a restore & it solved the issue for a short while only. I've disable push notification, location services, bluetooth, cellular data,3G & data roaming.
I think there is a hidden task that is causing this problem. Apple support,is there any solutions for this issue?

There are no solutions. Just stuff to do to try to fix our pads, pods, and phones. If there were solutions, mine would be fixed. And it is not.

solve (slv, sôlv)
v. solved, solv·ing, solves
v.tr.
1. To find a solution to.
2. To work out a correct solution to (a problem).
v.intr.
To solve an equation: Insert the values of the constants and solve for x.
[Middle English solven, to loosen, from Latin solvere; see leu- in Indo-European roots.]
solver n.
Synonyms: solve, decipher, resolve, unravel
These verbs mean to clear up or explain something puzzling or unintelligible: solve a riddle; can't decipher your handwriting; resolve a problem; unravel a mystery.

Nothing is solved.

... and I'm back in my home country. Unfortunately, as soon as I got back, the drain started up again, even after another three hours of airplane mode on the return flight. This proves that the problem (at least in my case) is in the cellular network. All I can do next is to try to manually switch to another carrier to test this further, to try to prove beyond any doubt that the problem is actually in the upgrade and not in any apps (since none of mine use the cellular network). Sorry, but it looks like it's Apple's fault after all.

I realize that those who have locked iPhones (the majority of users) cannot try this, but I'd be interested to see if anyone else can fix the problem simply by switching carriers. Remember to do it when you're not using the phone (e.g. overnight) to avoid roaming charges if you actually need to use your phone.

There is(/was?) a about 100 pages long thread in the ipod touch section of the forum about battery drain since iOS 4.0.
With time we found out that the drains could be related to Wifi (and/or 3G) because it does not turn off in standby since iOS 4.0 - its called consistent wifi a feature that comes with ios 4.0.
Many users reported that when you turn off wifi completely - put your device in Airplane mode, the battery drain was almost completely gone. When you turn off push notifications and stuff you have less traffic over wifi/3g which means less drain in standby mode. So i'm about 90% convinced the problem is at least by a big part wifi/3g related. And oh wonder apple has wifi problems with the new ipad ios^^ oO

So no nothing is solved. Everything that adresses the problem is a workaround. Although... turning off everything isnt really a workaround either, is it?
Why does apple always have to force changes on to its users? There is this cool little expression: NEVER CHANGE A RUNNING SYSTEM. Or at least let customers decide for themselfs.

Me personally I have found a solution for these problems: Its called iOS 3.1.3 with some nice changes that are not allowed by apple.

On my iPhone, the problem is not related to wifi or 3g - but as I mentioned earlier, I'm open to the possibility of there being several different causes to this problem. I have compared using my iPhone with everything (3g, wifi, bluetooth, cellular data, and location services) turned off manually while still keeping the airplade mode off. In this mode, the battery drain still persisted, but the instant I turned airplane mode on, the drain stopped. The only thing left is the cellular network (GSM) itself, which my latest traveling experience confirms.

I'll recharge my iPhone tonight, switch carriers for the night, and check for drain in the morning. I'll report back tomorrow.

Whish you the best Azukikuru 🙂

As i said "many users" not all of them. And of course the ipod issues could be totally different from the iphone issues because it of the obvious differences the devices have.
