Getting a Linksys WPC54G wireless card recognized in OS 10.3.9
I have a Lombard running OS 10.2.8, using a Linksys WPC54G card and connecting to a Linksys WRT54GS router. The card used to connect to an AEB, but it got fried and the Linksys was not only cheaper, but has better range. Anyway, I got another Lombard, running OS 10.3.9 and popped in another WPC54G card, but the card shows the "No Airport Card Installed" message. The card does show up on my desktop. How do I get the system to recognize the card?
G5180d, G4SDTiBook, G4TiBook, G4 Yosemite, PC 604,
Mac OS X (10.3.9)
I too have this problem... I have a Powerbook G4 (brown keyboard) I am at relatives house for a while and they have a Windows XP and a wireless network. They have an extra Linksys 802.11g Wireless-G Notebook Adapter. I thought that all I had to do was to plug it into my expansion slot and go to safari. It will recognize that there is a card in the slot. I get some sort of new dropdown menu that has a graphic that looks like a wireless card but nothing else to say that there is a card installed. How do I find out if this card is compatible with my laptop and if it isn't is there any way that I can connect to the internet at my relative's house???
I think the card model is
wpc54g version 4
HELP!! This is FRUSTRATING not being able to connect on my own computer and having to deal with these darn PC's (or as I call them,
Paperweight
Contraptions.)
The version of the WPC54G adapter makes a difference. Version 1 & 3 uses the Broadcom chipset that Apple uses so it works with the AirPort software and is virtually plug 'n play. Version 2 uses the Texas Instrument chipset and requires a driver. Version 4 uses the Inprocomm chipset and I do not know of a driver that works on Macs. That said, your options are (a) use the PC to surf the Internet using FireFox browser; or (b) buy a Mac compatible adapter card. See:
http://home.earthlink.net/~metaphyzx/Wireless.htm (Note: the link above is old so the version of card is still an issue. The Linksys WPC54GS v1.0 [with Speedbooster] uses the Broadcom chipset & AirPort driver.)
