iPad mute switch do not mute audio from videos or music????

Why the mute switch (old rotation lock) do not mute the video or music audio as mute on the Mac??? this is the worst thing I ever seen

The mute switch only mutes notifications. While that feature is quite useful in some circumstances, unfortunately Apple seems to have left that bit of information out of their documentation.

Actually, it's great. It's a really easy way to temporarily mute the alert sounds so that you can listen to music or the sound from a movie and you don't want the annoying alerts. This is especially valuable if you use headphones.

I do not agree as the iPad don't generate as much alerts as iPhone does. Anyway the iPhone audio mute and volume buttons does not the same as the iPad. So following the idea of make the same on all iOS devices that not have sense. Or maybe is a incorrect icon that Appe use on the iPad, as on iPhone the mute is a bell mute icon and on iPad is the audio mute icon.

It depends on how you use your iPad. Mine is generating alerts all the time, so the ability to mute those quickly is quite useful to me.

As icons it communicate something, the iPad icon communicate that all sounds must be turn off, but it doesn't. The iPhone icon is a bell so it have sense that only mute the little noises of alerts.

I like the new configuration a lot, but I do agree with you that it is strange that the iPhone and iPad icons are different given Apple's desire to have consistency across the board.
I noticed that the other day myself.
