Hi there,

I have no idea if I'm posting in the right spot, but here goes. I just signed up for a Skype account, but don't know if my computer has a microphone. How can I find that out? I did a search on the hard drive but didn't come up with any microphone. Do I need to purchase one? I am working on a 2009 imac.

IMac, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

    iMac does have a microphone.
It's that little dot next to the camera at the top center of the computer.

If you choose to, you can purchase a microphone pretty cheap that will plug in back of the computer. The headset microphone combos are always popular as well.

Not into the 3.5mm jack input socket - that's line level and won't accept microphones. USB mics, yes, but cheap they're not.

Carolyn - you will need to select the microphone in Skype Preferences>Audio (if it doesn't happen to have defaulted to that). There is a setting for input in System Preferences>Sound but it doesn't apply to Skype.
