Q: 12/640PS, gone 4ever ?

This old but fantastic printer stopped working this morning. After starting up the printer by switching it on, the first well known "sound" is there. All lights go on and off as usual, then the green one stays on. BUT the second "sound" you usually hear does not come up. No print job works.
I called a service man and he says it i can be the fuser unit, which died.
Has anybody any idea who`s selling such a thing? It would be really bad, if this machine has to go down the drain.
Thanx in advance.

None of the manuals for your printer diagnose problems by sound. All insist that if the lights flash in the usual way, no fault has been found and the printer is fine. The green light on is normal operating condition.

A dead fuser would light up several of the status lights before the internal diagnostic completed -- and they would freeze that way. Your printer is probably fine.

Did you disconnect the Ethernet cord? Did you update your Mac software?

Yes, I think I chose the wrong word. So I try to explain it again: When you switch on the printer (12/640 or pro630) it starts up making a little noise. Then it`s quiet for a moment and again it produces a a short noise again, which always showed me in the past, that it is ready to print. But this second noise does not appear any more and it does not print any more.
If it`s not the fuser unit... Any other idea?

You were right ! My printer is fine and running the usual way. It`s been the print server which was connected to the parallel port. I disconnected it and now the printer runs directly as a ethernet device.

Everything`s just fine. Thank you for the help.
