Blue AirPlay icon

What does a blue Airplay icon signify?

MSI K9N Diamond, Windows 7, iPhone 3GS/iPad WiFi 32GB

I upgraded to iOS 4.2 but don't see the airplay icon. Is it on the desktop with other apps or only within playing media does it appear?

Reason I asked was because it took me two days to get my AirPort Express to work with my iPad and iPhone 3GS. I though blue may signify poor connectivity. The connection is not perfect as it cuts out a few seconds (works fine about 90% of the time) when playing audio from the iPod app.

It signifies that audio/video is being streamed to an external device like the Apple TV.

On iPad iPod app it displays on top to the left of the song title.

On iPhone 3GS iPod app it displays on bottom right of play control buttons.
