Ipad crashes after 4.2 update

Has anyone had a problem with having to restore your Ipad's. I had never had to restore my ipad before I installed the new 4.2. Today my Ipad crashed and I had to restore the entire Ipad and reinstall all of my apps. Why did this happen? I have never had this problem before the new update. Anyone else having this issue? Please help.

I am having the same problem.
The apps Mail, Photos, App Store, Notes, and Safari (as well as many third party apps) crash/hangup with monotonous regularity. I cannot click links in mail to view in safari without safari and/or the springboard crashing. I cannot import pictures from my camera to my library without crashes preventing more than one or two being saved.
Also multi tasking is virtually useless as crashes usually occur immediately following an app switch.

My iPad is impossible to use.
This is becoming an extreme irritation.

Wow...same issue here. I downloaded the 4.2 update the day it came out. Tried out everything and 5 days later I had to put the iPad in recovery mode because it was non responsive and ON with a full battery. Total black screen, had to hold down home button and power button to get to restore mode. This is not good but I think Apple is aware of this with 4.3 waiting in the wings.

Same problem here, safari crashing after several pages of web browsing, getting low memory logs in the console, seems safari is being shut down by the OS due to low memory. Hope its not a sign of lower RAM (256MB) compared to iOS4 running on iphone 4 which has 512MB. Maybe some OS memory management tweaks are coming in 4.2.x+...hope so as I have tried all the usual trouble shooting guides (resets, hard rests, full restore etc..).

Example of a page that crashes my ipad is the tesco one, try navigating to this link then change the sort from price low to high then watch as safari crashes, also happens on other pages. Might be linked to certain web sites? Give it a try..

Sadly, I also have the wifi issue. My router does not let me pick a single method (N, g, b etc.) except for N only. I have devices that cannot connect to N and can't pick this. RRRRRRR. I may get a cheap wireless to put the other devices on. Put me in as one more who needs an fix from Apple!

All other things to try have failed including complete restore choosing "from back" and "as new". Neither worked.

Hello,
Add me to the list! I thought it was just a quirk at first, but my iPad has been crashing constantly when reading e-mails, and when running various apps. At first, I blamed the apps, but it's clearly an iOS issue.

This, together with...
1. The fact that my WiFi no longer works properly ( http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2657404)

and

2. My 3G is suddenly useless ( http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12698378#12698378)

...is causing a lot of buyer remorse lately!

What happened here? How could iOS 4.2 have so many problems?

Since upgrading to 4.2.1 I too have had networking and crashing issues with my iPad. The crashing is the worst as I am having to reset my iPad two or three times a day and many apps just crash before i can do anything. I have tried shutting apps down to free up memory, but that doesn't fix anything. Resetting is the only thing that makes it temporarily better.

As for the networking, It does look like hidden SSIDs are now being found and remembered (they were not with v3), but it keeps trying to go back to the broadcasted SSID even though I have told it to forget that network. S the network just seems to get confused. I just continually jumps between the two networks.

I have been considering buying a bunch of ipads for my organization, but this kind of unreliability makes me rethink that as i won't be able to support it...oh well...

Apple, please fix the reliability...

I got exactly the same issue.
I have bought a brand new Ipad 3G 3 days ago in Frisco?. When back home, first time I tried to sync it with my iMac, a 4.2 update was proposed. I clicked on yes and in a minute the ipad completely crashed. After sevral minutes and attempts, a restore was proposed. I clicked yes and then after minutes the restore was declared impossible. I feared my brand new gadget was already dead !
Fortunately , at second attempt, it was restored properly and works now.
What's that mess ? This is a real shame !
The only conclusion is "never accept any update !!"

Additionnaly I have an issue with MobileMe which I bought together with the iPad. When home, trying to sync with my iMac 10.5.8, the only mobileme screen I got is the ipad location finder. Impossible to get access to any other function (mail, agenda, whatsoever..)
Anybody a solution ?
Thanks
