iPad won't sync photos

I just upgraded to 4.2 and my iPad will no longer sync my photos from iPhoto.

They synced just fine before I upgraded but now I get an error:

"Some of your photos, including the photo "IMG_1402.JPG, were not copied to the iPad because they cannot be displayed on your iPad."

Some details:

-these photos synced just fine before I upgraded to 4.2
-the photos are all in my iPhoto library
- I recently had the hard drive on my imac die so it was just replaced with a new one
- I used Time Machine to restore my system

Any help is appreciated.

Hi,

Follow the instructions here to delete the iPod Photo cache and see if that helps.

iTunes: Photo sync creates iPod Photo Cache folder

Restart your iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPad. To turn iPad back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.

Now try syncing.

Just purchased a new ipad and have tried several folders and the results are always the same. Some of your photos were not copied to the ipad because they cannot be displayed.
Tried the recommended deleting cache and turning off the ipad but it did not help.
Any ideas.
itunes 10.1.1.4
ios 4.2.1 (8c148)
PC with windows XP service pack 3
Thanks Kim Earl

Hi Kim,

I have tried every option but could not solve the problem.
Then I realized that its because of the folder attributes.
Right click on the folder that you want to sync with ipad for photos.
Click properties
at the bottom of the page make sure that read only option is not selected.
apply it to all of the images and sub folders.

enjoy your sync 🙂

The files that you say are syncing again - even though they are already on the iPad - will always sync again unless you deselect them in iTunes in which case they will be removed from the iPad. That's how the sync works.

I'm guessing that you may have a corrupt photo or image that is causing the sync to fail or quit. You might want to try removing all of your photos by deselecting them in iTunes then sync - and try adding them back on to the iPad in smaller groups until you are able to nail down the troublesome photo, album or event that causes the sync to stop.

If you want to try removing the photos as suggested, you may want to repeat the remove the iPod photo cache folder one more time before you begin resyncing the photos back onto the iPad.

There are other things that you could try, like deleting your iPad backup - on your computer, launch iTunes and go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices>Your iPad's name and then select delete back up. Quit iTunes and then try to sync again.

Or something a little less invasive that may or may not work - but it will harm nothing - try resetting your iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. Then try to sync again.

Started having the same issue with my iPad 2 just this week. Tried deleting the iPod Photo Cache, disabling then re-enabling photo sync through iTunes, but keep getting the error: "Some of your photos, including the photo “XXX.jpg”, were not copied to the iPad “XXX” because they cannot be displayed on your iPad." This is with iOS 4.3.5, iTunes 10.4, and Mac OS 10.7 Lion.

Interestingly enough, I have no issues syncing the same exact set of photos to my iPhone 4 (also running 4.3.5). This seems to be an iPad-only issue.

What's going on with this problem? It seems like it's widespread and been around for a long time. I've had no problems with this until today and it affects my iPad2 and iPhone4. Both fail at the same photo.

- I've done the photo cache delete suggestion.

- I am running OSX Lion with iTunes 10.4 (80) and sync specific events with iPhoto 09 8.1.2 (424).

- I've synced the offending photo(s) before and have seen that the iPhone and iPad can in fact display the ones iTunes fails on.

It makes no sense, IMO, for iTunes to bail at the first photo it can't sync. This is an irritating problem.

I agree. I am having the same problem. Everything synced fine until this last update it seems. Only about 35 - 50 photos out of 7000 synce and it was fine a few weeks ago. It always gave me a warning that some photos didn't sync but now almost all won't sync. All the photos i've taken are with the same camera and worked fine before. The ones that do sync are exaclty the same as the ones that don't.

Seems to be iOS related as I copied a folder of photos to an SD card and hooked it to the iPad with the camera conenction kit and the ususal suspect pictures were rejected -- iTunes and syncing not necessary for this issue.

I upgraded to iOS 4.3.5 in the last day or two.
