iPod Touch 4G, "Video" program crashes after Update to iOS 4.2

After updating iPod Touch 4G to iOS4.2 the program "videos" just crashes.
Details: I can sync the iPod touch with the computer and the videos reappear on first launch of "videos". All videos play o.k. Second launch of "videos" gives me a white screen for several seconds, then "videos" crashes. Every time I launch it, it keeps crashing.
There are 2 conditions that make them reappear and "videos" runs normally (but only once!):
Method 1: Sync with my MacBook
Method 2: I fully close the program "Videos", then change language on the iPod touch to english (any other language seems to work, too. It's the change that seems to be important). Launching "videos" after that successfully shows all my videos. Second launch and the crash is back. Every time. Until I change the language again.
I tried full restore, and I tried Resetting the iPod, both with no success.
BTW: The Video Files are o.k., I can launch them using playlists and they work just fine.

This is really strange. Can anyone help?

Or, can anyone help how to revert back to iOS 4.1?

Same here. Video program loads after each sync to play at least one video then when you have to return to the main menu and go back to video, the program library is blank and video crashes back to the main menu. Yes, I can also see that the videos are still there both in the directory when I sync up and also can see some of the videos in the music playlists, like the Music Videos. I hope someone can answer this question and offer a fix soon as I just bought this new IPod Touch 4G 64gb and this is not a good start. Thanks

so i went to the genius bar the first time and the guy thought he had fixed it after a full in-store restore (more then what you can do at home). when i got home and re syncd all the movies and music etc it still didnt work. so i made a second appointment.

so i went back the second time and they gave me a new/refurbished device on the spot.

no real solutions were offered. just a full swap out!

I'm having the same problem as well with my iPod Touch 4G since I updated to iOS 4.2. The work-around that I'm using is to create a playlist in iTunes for "Movies & TV Shows" - I put all my movies and TV shows in that playlist so I can quickly access them through the music player (where they play fine), since the iPod Touch crashes back to the home screen if I try to use the video player. I'd rather not get a refurbished unit from Apple as the "fix" - I'm hoping that a new firmware fixes this...

My 3G, upgraded to 4.2.1, has the same issue. However, it works fine initially (that is, I remove all videos and start adding them back on). It's only after hitting somewhere between 75 and 100 videos that this issue presents. It happens no matter what order I add the videos in, and starts after the last video added was any kind (TV show, music video, movie; also, bought from ITunes or converted by me). All videos worked fine under 3x, and all play fine even now (accessing them via a playlist).

I am assuming this is a bug in iOS4, as others have said that it persists after not only a user restore, but an in-store restore.

Check out the thread I have posted below. I've been having the same problem and have been posting on this thread.
Very annoying problem and it hasn't been solved in the new iOS 4.3 either!!
After two genius appointments, no solution has been offered from Apple, only a new device, which unfortunately came with iOS 4.2 installed, so I couldn't even leave it on the old iOS 3 and not update it. Although having said that, on this device the Video app was working, but only every other time. Weird I know! But now it won't work at all after the newest update... back to square one.
There are work arounds though, as mentioned in the above posts, if you change the music videos into films then they work perfectly.
Strange how it's only Music Vids that seem to cause this problem!?

I was very disappointed to see that the problem still has not been fixed with 4.3. I have spent hours on the phone with Apple. They claim to have no knowledge that such a problem exists. I suggested that they read these forum discussions. I was told that Apple engineers monitor the forums and that if there is a problem it would be fixed with the next update. That was back in November and December. Here we are four months later, a new IOS release and the problem is not fixed.

Apple fans like to talk about how wonderful Apple is. that is a load of crap! At least with Microsoft software, it is possible to go back to an earlier version. IOS 4.1 worked well enough for me. At least I could watch videos. I have not been able to watch videos since the release of 4.2.
