iPhoto won't close

iPhoto won't close

I have the following on my screen:Photos being imported to photo library. Please wait for import to complete. When I try to close that is the message that I get.
The computer also won't shut down because of this. How do I close iPhoto

i Mac, Mac OS X (10.6.5)

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Type Command OptionEsc. In the window that appears select iPhoto and the Force Quit button.

Where you were importing the photos from and how many were there?

Same here, with my iPod.
Force quit worked, and after arestarting iPhoto and reconnecting the device I uploaded my photos.
No messages in Console.app.
