I just updated my iPhone to 4.2.1 using iTunes. iTunes said I would lose my contacts but could restore them after the update. I have gone into iTunes and done the iPhone synch but it only allows synch with Windows addr bk, google, yahoo, and Outlook. I never stored anything in those file formats. Just for kicks I tried Windows Address Book, it did a synch, but no data appeared in my contacts list.

I noticed that iTunes dis store the contacts onmy computer in the following folder--Doc & Settings >> App Data >> iTunes >> Mobile Backups >> Structured
But I do not know how to get this uploaded back to my iPhone. Does anyone know>

Don't know if there's a better way, but:

Copy the "Structured" directory under Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

Now open iTunes and right click on your iPhone and select "Restore from Backup", you should see the newly created folder added to the list (You may need to do this step before copying so that you can recognize which is which).

Select the backup you just copied and use it to restore.

Once restored you should see all your contacts and settings back. Application data is also restored, you just need to install that particular app to see it.

    Good Luck!
