Import mail from Outlook for Mac to Mail

I switched from a PC and bought a copy of the new Office for Mac 2011. This has Outlook for Mac. I was able to import my pst file from my PC into Outlook for Mac without any problem. But I prefer to use Mail. Is there a way to export Outlook for Mac mail into a format which can be imported into Mail? Already tried converting mail from pst file to mbox using O2M software. It transfers less than 20% of mail folders no matter what I try. Since Outlook for Mac is operating on a Mac OS X, I would think there must be an easy way to export mail into a mbox format but I don't see it anywhere.

hi, I have the same problem, I can't export my emails from Outlook MAC to Mail MAC.

I read all the discussion, but I tried to drag my folders from my Outlook to the desktop (or a new folder in desktop), but without success, the folders come back to Outlook. Only lets me drag emails.

Please give your comments and help me with this problem

thank you

Roagui,

I am looking at my options for mail having also just got a mac.

to migrate my Outlook from pc to mac and once i did it and found out it wont synk with my iphone

Outlook for Mac didn't sync with the iPhone - is that right? I had assumed that if the email was IMAP that the client used to collect mail was irrelevant and that it would sync with any of my devices (PC, Mac & iPhone)

Would be great to get this cleared up!

ALSO

You guys seem to have had a few goes at this stuff!!

Can anyone think of a reason why the following wouldn't work??

  • I'm planning on running MAIL AND OUTLOOK on my Mac initially to test out both to see what I prefer. As they will all be IMAP inboxes, and technically these are just clients, i'm assuming that this WILL work, but would be really interested to hear your views!
  • If I run both, I will automatically have all my historic emails in Outlook for Mac as I will copy the .pst, and if I decide to use mail instead, I can use this simple conversion process, so hoping that covers all angles

Anyone's thoughts, tips or advice woiuld be greatly appreciated! 🙂

It looks like the bug in the Apple Mail import process is to assume that Message-IDs of the emails in a particular .mbox file are unique, which in reality, cannot be guaranteed.

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3423344?start=0&tstart=0

Someone in that other thread posted an AppleScript solution to modify the Message-ID field in the .mbox files to guarantee uniqueness but it looks like it has problems dealing with scale.

I did some digging around and it seems like to most elegant way to script this modification would be to use the Python mailbox library instead which supports reading and writing mbox files. When I get some free time, I'll try to whip up a Python script to do this.

As explained on the page/article, and with great accompanying images, there are six steps to this - very easy and quick to do (but go to this page/article to get the details!)

1) download & install Thunderbird on the PC (where Outlook is installed)

2) using Thunderbird, import Outlook files

3) copy (I used a USB drive) the Thunderbird folder containing imported Outlook files

4) (connect USB drive to Mac)

5) in Mail, "import mailboxes" (choosing folder from step 3)

6) VOILA! (piece o' cake)

ENJOY! 🙂
