Q: Import mail from Outlook for Mac to Mail

I switched from a PC and bought a copy of the new Office for Mac 2011. This has Outlook for Mac. I was able to import my pst file from my PC into Outlook for Mac without any problem. But I prefer to use Mail. Is there a way to export Outlook for Mac mail into a format which can be imported into Mail? Already tried converting mail from pst file to mbox using O2M software. It transfers less than 20% of mail folders no matter what I try. Since Outlook for Mac is operating on a Mac OS X, I would think there must be an easy way to export mail into a mbox format but I don't see it anywhere.

Try this, if the claims are accurate it will do what you need.

I too have had many more problems with Outlook that I would have hoped for and had decided to switch back to Mail.  Unfortunately, the above apparently does not yet work with Lion.  The website says they are working on it, and I am hoping for an alert from them when it is adapted.

I read an article (http://tidbits.com/article/11696) that recommended a product called Eagle Filer http://c-command.com/eaglefiler/ I tried it out on the free trial and it was awesome. Fast, easy, and worked just as advertised. Three-step process. Select all messages in an Outlook 2011 for Mac mailbox, hit FnF1, all messages are exported into a mailbox in Eagle Filer that is compatible with an mbox format. In Apple Mail, select import mailbox, select the mailbox in Eagle Filer, it imports it into an Import folder. Copy the messages and move them into the Mail folder you want, or just move the folder into your "On My Mac" folder. Very simple. The product is $40, but it does a whole lot more, so I'm probably going to buy it for the other useful purposes.

You can import mbox files to Apple Mail Application, just drag Inbox folder from Oulook Mac 2011 to your Desktop, then go to Menu File >Import Mailboxes, and select mbox file. you can do the same for oubox, trash or your custom folder in outlook

Hi all. Don't know if any of you have already solved this issue, but after battling with this thing for weeks and finally finding a solution, I thought it would be a good idea to share it.

I had already tried with Thunderbird, importing evetrything and then trying to import that to Apple mail to no avail.

However, as someone already mentioned, the answer is EagleFiler. I know it's not free but the demo version is more than enough. All you have to do is create a library for each of the mail folders you want to export. Select in EagleFiler the folder (i.e. library) you want to import. Then go to that same folder in outlook, select all your e-mails and press F1 (alternatively just drag all the e-mails to the little EagleFiler window on the bottom right corner of the creen). Depending on the number of e-mails, it might take a while (in my Macbook core 2 duo it took about 3 hours to import some 10.000 e-mails tht were in just one folder).

EagleFiler actually saves in mbox format (even if it's not displayed that way) so, all you have to do is open apple mail, go to iport-mbox file and then just look for the main file in the library directory. Done.

Have to say that I thought for a moment that it couldn't be done!!

After Working very hard on this here comes to free & Easy solution

    It Works on OS Lion

First Download Eagle Filer on your System from

    http://c-command.com/eaglefiler/

(Don't Worry Free Trial is more than Enough)

    Then;

To move e-mail from Outlook 2011 to Apple Mail:
    1. Create a new library in EagleFiler.
    2. Select some messages in Outlook via Edit > Select All. You can either do one folder at a time or use a smart folder to select from multiple folders at once. In this case, EagleFiler will preserve the name of the folder that each message came from, although you will have to re-establish the hierarchy of the folders later.
    3. Press the capture key to import the messages into EagleFiler. It will create one mbox file for each folder.
    4. In Apple Mail, choose File > Import Mailboxes…. Select “Files in mbox format” and then click Continue. Then Choose the “Files” folder for your EagleFiler library.

    Ta daaaaa

    You Are done!

Hi All. Since i updated to lion my outlook crashed totally as i have 13 GB in the mail. Couldnt handle it. So i have also since had the problem trying to import mail.

JChp53 Has the best approach. It actually is quite fast. importing the Mbox did not work for me though.

As follows worked perfect for me with all 13GB.

From OUTLOOK > Manually put all folders to the desktop > (GO TO) MAC MAIL > FILE > IMPORT MAILBOXES>MAC MAIL (NOT MBOX, says it can not find the folders)

As JChp53 says, it puts them into an imported folder in MAC MAIL. you can then drop them back into the folders you like.

This is the safest and purest workable way i have come across. All other methods did not work.

    Size in outlook kills it!

    Happy emailing from now on.

I have Outlook on my PC.  I backed up the file to the .pst format and transferred it to my new Mac. I then downloaded a free trial of MS Office and imported the .pst files into Outlook Mac Mail.  I dragged each folder to the desktop.  They were converted to .mbox files.  I then opened Mac Mail and imported each folder from the desktop.  Worked great!
