Q: Import mail from Outlook for Mac to Mail

I switched from a PC and bought a copy of the new Office for Mac 2011. This has Outlook for Mac. I was able to import my pst file from my PC into Outlook for Mac without any problem. But I prefer to use Mail. Is there a way to export Outlook for Mac mail into a format which can be imported into Mail? Already tried converting mail from pst file to mbox using O2M software. It transfers less than 20% of mail folders no matter what I try. Since Outlook for Mac is operating on a Mac OS X, I would think there must be an easy way to export mail into a mbox format but I don't see it anywhere.

Thanks.  I tried downloading Emailchemy earlier today...apparently my company has put some sort of block on that sort of download and I can't expand the file once it's download.  Are there any other options?

Hi, I own a small business in which email are de-facto for the company. I was also suffering from the mail migration problem as narrated by the individual who started this thread. Searching for solutions I landed on this thread hoping to find something helpful that would solve my problem of migrating emails from outlook 2011 to mac mail. I gave a try to some of the ways but each had its disadvantages in different ways. Using the import function was the worst as it imported the mails all with garbage material. So not wasting more time I downloaded the trial version of a paid solution http://www.olmconverterpro.com/. Surprisingly mail conversion was never so easy using this application, a total of 5-6 clicks made the mails to migrate and that too successfully. Not wasting more time I purchased this tool got all my mails migrated. I hope this post will help others too to saving their precious time rather than wasting it in other cumbersome ways of migration resulting in disappointment.  Thank you.

You can use an intermediary IMAP server, or simply create corresponding folders in Finder and drag and drop the messages from within Outlook to that folder. Then you can import to Mail from those folders/files.

Or you can simply look for third party tools for better and fast results, here is one recommended by apple store: Om to Mbox

A simple google search will help you get a lot of solutions for this particular problem.

Here is one search to help you get going:- Outlook to Apple mail

Or you can see the following links having the similar discussions:-

I hope this information helps you.

The Emailchemy works beautifully to say the least. Best 29 dollars I have spent.

I have a new MBPro with Mavericks.  Wanting to migrate from my Win7 with Outlook 2007 to my mac Mail, I search for emailchemy and find that it is labeled compatible with Windows 7. This from the main page on http://emailchemy.en.softonic.com/

Is there another RELIABLE method to perform this very important function without loosing mail or having it converted with "hyroglyphics"?

Emailchemy is a Mac program, you do have a Mac?

And don't download from Softonic, always download from the vendors site, which is here

This is by far the easiest and risk-free way to do this that I found.  I've made a few switches in the past 12 months after changing from Windows, thinking Outlook would be the best option and now regretting it I wanted to change back.  No need to buy add-ons or software, apply for gmail or anything else outside of your Mac.

Drag all your mail folders from Outlook onto your desktop and then you can bulk select them through the Import Mailbox option in the File menu in Mail.

    Thanks JChp53!

There is a longish way to do this.

In Outlook, Select the folder you want to move (If there are folders within the folder, you have to select each individual subfolder, as the subfolders won't copy along with the main folder, only the messages in the folder will copy). Click and drag the selected folder (ex: inbox folder) to a new folder on your desktop. I couldn't figure out a way to select all the folders, so i dragged each folder and subfolder from Outlook into the folder on the desktop. Once you're done copying all the Outlook folders, open up Mac Mail. Go to File --> import mailboxes. Then select "Files in mbox format" and click continue. Then select desktop, and the folder you dragged all of your Outlook folders into. Hit "Choose." Mac Mail will import all of these folders, and when it's finished, will tell you that they are under the folder labeled "imports" in Mac Mail, and you just have to move all your subfolders back into their main folders.

Like I said, it takes a little while longer than I would like, but it worked for me and now I have all my old mail from Outlook in Mac Mail.

Hope that helps (and that I explained right)!
