My facetime on my iphone 4 (version 4.2.1) has started behaving strangely. I was no where near my phone and I heard it ringing when I got to it, it said "abc" wanted to facetime, when I tried to answer it, it just said connecting, then failed. I talked with "abc" via other means and they said they weren't near their phone, and their phone said I wanted to facetime with them. Neither party was near their phone, yet facetime for both said the other wanted to talk....

both of us were at our respective houses and connected via WiFi (not that that explains the random call, but wanted to mention it as trouble shooting information as to the failure of the call)

I believe this is the 2nd time (both to the same other phone) since installing the 4.2.1 update that facetime has initiated a call with out my interaction. - both phones are running 4.2.1...

has anyone else seen this behavior?

Same thing happened to me today. Very strange. I would like to know how this is even possible.

Yes, this happened only after updating to 4.2.1. I do not know the other person's OS version though.

Just a guess--what time did the call come in on all of your iPhone 4s?

Mine came in at 6:26PM Pacific Time. Same issue as mentioned by the OP--Facetime call to my wife's iP4 from my e-mail address (Facetime for Mac Beta). All of my Macs were sleeping until I tried to call it back from her iP4. The logs show there was no activity until I tried to call back a 2nd time at 6:31PM

All of our iP4s are running 4.2.1

Same time, the other person got a 'rouge facetime call' from me at 6:26pm Pacific Time. And my logs show no outgoing calls.

Son's phone just phoned me in uk on FaceTime 2.30am. Couldn't connect. Drove to his house like a lunatic in case something wrong. Woke him and neighbours! Son's phone turned off in his bag!

    posted in other topic too:

Add another one to the list. While sitting on the couch next to each other with our phones in hand my wife received a supposed facetime call to her iPhone 4 from mine, but mine was completely idle. I came up and tried a call from my computer to see if my Apple ID account had been hacked, but noticed that call from there originated from my e-mail address. So now I'm very concerned because it looks like it came from my cell number.

    Not cool.

    This happened approximately 9:30pm Eastern.

    For now Facetime = disabled.

Also, it is not the update. My phone is on 4.2.1 and hers is on 4.10.

Remind me to give PhilDavies the "Father of the Year" award. Good job, glad to hear he's ok.

Incidentally, Twitter apparently was buzzing about it a little earlier.

    Add me to this list.

Happened to me at 9.34-ish EST to my iPhone and to my computer from a friend who was nowhere near WiFi. Three calls came in, no one was one the other end.

Add my experience to the list. The fantom call happened at the same time. According to my brother that has an iphone, i attempted to facetime him at 9:27pm from my macbook. I was in a movie at the time. It's looking like a glitch at Apple to me.
