iPhone 3GS

Not sure what you mean by your question. I have an AppleTV, and I have an iPhone 3GS. I can stream a movie from my iPhone to the AppleTV, that's nifty. I can stream audio from my Netflix app and watch a flick on my iPhone with the sound coming through the surround speakers.

I can use the Apple Remote app from my iPhone to control my AppleTV.

So, I guess the simple answer is yes.

I have several old ATVs and one new one. I also have a 3GS iPhone.
The Remote application will control both generations of ATVs.
Airplay currently only works with ATV2, not ATV1, which I think really blows.
I am able to stream video and audio from media synced to my phone via iPod app on my 3GS, to the ATV2, but videos shot using the phone do NOT stream to ATV2. This also blows, imho. Streaming for ATV1 is still limited to audio from iTunes, which also blows.
The promise of Airplay as an improvement to AirTunes is a stretch to say the least.
Apple, PLEASE update ATV1 software to support Airplay!! It's like you have completely forgotten all of us that have supported Apple TV since the beginning!
Also please let Airplay stream videos shot on iPhone with having to sync.
I am a huge fan of all things Apple, but it seems like many design and implementation strategies of new products, particularly Apple TV, have been haphazard to say the least.

the original appletv is EOL and will not receive any further updates.

Ever since I bought a new ATV2 and found it lacking, I've been searching for any info about official support for the original.
I love Apple stuff - the original ATV rocks - it's amazing that they would stop supporting it just because they invented a Netflix hockey puck that does less than the original, and at a lower resolution.
Again, just my opinion. I'm quite sure Mr. Jobs knows what he's doing, but I don't get it.

End of life, just do a little search. They aren't going to stop supporting it (if you have any problems with the unit), just no updates to the software.
