Were you ever able to find an answer for your question? I just downloaded iPhoto '11 and am having the same problem. At the end of each album or event it seems to have pulled out just the face of every individual in that album.

No. It is automatically duping the faces of all the people in the album and making the face its own, albeit distorted, photo.

A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help

This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.

When I transferred all of my photos onto my MacBook and updated iPhoto '11 it duped most of the Events regardless if they were already on the MacBook. In addition to that it started 'adding' just the faces as additional photos to the Events and Albums. I have a few thousand photos but it ended up transferring over 65,000 photos (mostly dupes). Very annoying. I think I am going to back everything out and start over.

How did you do this? Did you import an old library into the new one - you never do that - it causes massive duplication and does not keep your metadata --- the correct method is to copy the old library to the pictures folder of the new computer (assuming your do not have a working iPhoto library there) and launch iPhoto and let it convert the old library

I had an existing library on the MacBook and I DID import the old into the new - which was obviously wrong. Any ideas on how to properly combine the two? My objective is to transfer to the MacBook in order to conveniently work on organizing my iPhoto Library and then to transfer back to the hub computer in the house.

the only way to combine two iPhoto libraries is to use iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/

Apple removed the ability to create new EMPTY albums in iPhoto '11. Amazing as that may seem, they tried to fix or improve or change something THAT WAS NOT BROKEN.

Whatever logic was employed to remove this valuable feature; it was flawed and a big mistake. I sincerely hope someone from apple Pro App Support is reading this.

What could be the benefit of removing the ability to create a blank album at will?

There's no excuse for this; coming from a company with huge resources in every which way.

I'm having the same issue. I've recently done a clean install on my mac and have just added only about 400 photos from my phone into iPhoto. When I try to create a new album to start to organize, it puts my entire library into that album. And no, I do not have anything photos or events selected. Its extremely frustrating. They've made iPhoto much more complicated than it needs to be. Has anybody got this squared away?

Command-shift-n will crete a new empty Album.

Thanks so much, Larry! The Library Manager worked like a charm! Now instead of 65,000+ photos (mostly dupes) I have just 4,000+. I really appreciate your advice.

I'm also having this issue since upgrading to iPhoto '11. Each time I create a new album, iPhoto randomly adds photos to it even though I have no photos selected. Will use the shortcut command to work around it, but in the meantime I hope Apple will fix this issue. When I pay for a program, I expect it to work.

File -> New -> Album -- then hold down the Shift key to change "Album" to "Empty Album".
