Quicktime 7 in Snow Leopard

Hello everyone.

I just transferred by firewire all my old PPC computer information to my Intel iMac 10.6. Quicktime X is standard but I have read where it is advisable to download and install the old Quicktime 7 software in order to play some of your old files.

I tested some of my old movies and they seem to work fine without Quicktime 7 but I'm wondering if I'm missing something. Any thoughts and comments are appreciated.

Mac OS X 10.6 includes QuickTime versions 10.0 and 7.6.3. The QuickTime 7 player will only be present if a QuickTime Pro key was present at the time of installation, or if specified as part of a custom install, or individually downloaded.

Snow Leopard update 10.6.4 included an update to 7.6.6 (if installed). You can install it from the above link even though it says for 10.6.3. It's the same version of QuickTime Player 7.6.6.

Only QuickTime Player 7.6.3 or 7.6.6 can be updated to "Pro".

I think that I will not install it unless I absolutely need it especially after I happened to see the following Apple information.

After updating to QuickTime 7.2 on Intel-based Macs, some applications may not open. This issue only occurs with applications that rely on Mac OS X's Rosetta technology for compatibility on Intel-based Macs.

Thanks to all for your help.
