Optical Drive problem

i have a powerbook g4 with an:

Reads DVD: Yes
CD-Write: -R, -RW

Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes
Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, DVD-DAO
Media: No
optical drive and when i insert a cd or dvd its sounds like its trying to load the cd then a few moments later it spits it back out
