Does Airplay work with Extreme

I have a simple question. I have and Airport extreme, an Iphone 4, an IMac and I am getting Apple TV And an Ipad for Christmas. My question is since the recent release of OS 4.2 I have not been able to use airplay. Is it because I am using the extreme? I should be able to see my music from my phone, but I see nothing, will not connect at all. Any help would be appreciated. And if I am doing something dumb, please tell me, thanks

IMac, Mac OS X (10.6.4), Also have an Airport Extreme, two iphones, a 4 and a 3G

Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.

What did you expect to be able to do? According to this Apple document

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4437

"With AirPlay, you can wirelessly stream videos, music, and photos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch".

I should be able to see my music from my phone, but I see nothing

If you want music on your Mac to be available on your iPhone, you have to tell iTunes to synchronize it onto the iPhone.

will not connect at all.

I'm not sure what you mean by that.

Hello jdburns78. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!

As you are already aware AirPlay is the replacement for AirTunes. AirPlay will stream from either an iTunes host computer or a portable iOS 4.2 device to either an AirPort Express or an Apple TV.

So, in your case, AirPlay would stream first to the AirPort Extreme, and then, on to the Apple TV. An AirPort Express would not be necessary.
