Time Capsule still active after backing up.

I've noticed lately when Time Machine completes a backup, the Disk icon is still present on my desktop and I can hear Disk activity even though the preference pane shows backup completed.
Previously the Disk image would disappear a few seconds after completion but now I have to manually eject from the sidebar.
This happens whether backups are scheduled or done manually.

I think the TC disk activity continuing long after the backup had been completed occurred after the SL 10.6.5 update.

If you're willing to use a command in a Terminal session to learn more about what's happening, when Time Machine seems to be inactive, launch the Terminal utility, then type this command:

sudo lsof | grep "nameofyourTMvolume"

The letter "l" in "lsof" is a lower-case letter "L". Replace the value in quotes with the name of your Time Capsule's Time Machine volume, which in my case is "Data". If that volume name contains a space you'll need the quotes, otherwise you can omit them. You'll be prompted for your administrative password. In the resulting output the first "word" is the process that has open a file on your Time Machine volume. If you don't know what it is, do a Web search or ask here.

I backed up my MBP and TC performed as it should, so it was a case of going through my downloads on my iMac and isolating the items not present on my MBP........laborious!

I updated RealPlayer and RealPlayer Converter to the latest version and having now carried out 3 scheduled backups without any issues, I declare the problem solved!
