Resetting iphone 3Gs

I tried to reset my iphone 3Gs using the reset function on the phone Settings - General - Reset - Erase all Content and Settings.

I thought the phone frose because it didnt do anything, but then i saw that every now and then the apple loge looks like its doing something, and then i left it on. Its been more than 24 hours now and it is still not on again........

Please help me. The phone is not even 2 months old.

Ok i did that it was connected to the PC power but is on the wall now. How long does this process usualy take?

10-20 minutes, if it dont restart then try putting your
phone into dfu mode, when in dfu connect that to your pc running
itunes that will restore your iphone. for dfu mode google for
how to enter dfu mode

Ok that worked, but now the phone needs to be activated, and i bought it in the UK without a sim card, and the SA sim cards doesn't work to activate the phone?

Contact your Uk carrier thru their
Web support and pay nominal fees
For carrier unlock then reconnect
With iTunes to unlock.

Where do i find the contact details and what do i ask them? When i bought the phone i tried to get hold of someone in the UK to assist me but without any response from them. I struggle to get a support email address on the website to....

if u know your carrier then visit their website, but in ur case i think you are
not original buyer of iphone. so without carrier name and original purchase invoice it's not possible to unlock iphone officially.

I have the invoice when i bought the phone. I bought is cash and not on contract and that is why i didn't receive a sim card with the phone. The people at the Apple store in the UK confirmed with me that the phone is not carrier locked and WILL work in SA but when i got here it was blocked.

ok good, if ur able to see setting>general>about>carrier
then see if it has any carrier name.
and what price u paid for it and was this purchase direct from apple store
or carrier.

I cant activate the phone without the carrier sim card so cant even get into that screen. I bought it from the Apple store direct, paid 419 ponds for it.

i forgot that u are unable to activate, when did you purchased that?
it generally takes 10-15 working days to process 'unlock request' by apple.
after that when you connect to itunes it unlocks with restore.

Dont have the exact date at the moment, but it was in around 2nd of September 2010. The phone was not on contract i bought it cash directly from the Apple store.

chances are that you got an carrier locked phone, and cant be serviced
outside country of purchase, so u have to take that to UK for official unlock.

and one thing more if you are sure that u purchased an unlocked phone
you must try another gsm sim from any other carrier in SA.
or try replace sim after cleaning it;s metal contacts and restore with itunes
