How to reset forgotten Restrictions password with iPhone restore?

Hi,

I set restrictions on my iphone to disable in-app purchases so that my children don't rack up a bill on my account. Unfortunately I've forgotten the password and now I need an in-app purchase for CoPilot navigation app.

Can I reset my iPhone and then restore from a backup to clear the restrictions password? If so, is there a step by step guide to do this? Much appreciate any help.

In order to change the passcode for the restrictions, you must add the string

<key>SBParentalControlsPIN</key>

<string>1234</string>

to the text. It will change the PIN to 1234. Then if you remove that string after syncing your backup and making your edits, it will set the passcode back to what it was before you added the <key>. It is a thousand times easier to make this edit in X-Code's Plist viewer, but it can be done in TextEdit or any other code editor by entering the string. There is alot of syncing to be done here, however it is the only way to edit the PIN without knowing it or Jailbreaking.

I am definitely missing something here...tried the exact steps and triple checked the edited file, all looks fine. when i do a restore, i get the "restore in progress" on my iphone and then i get a dialog box on the ibackupbot application and the error message it "errror occured, error code-1". i have iphone4 with ios 6.0.1. appreciate any help.

I am having the same problem as bvvasu - edited the files, double checked everything - tried restoring from both ITunes and from iBackbot (on separate occasions)... I also get the "restore in progress" on the ipod and then i get a dialog box on the ibackupbot application and the error message it "errror occured, error code-1". We have 2 ipod 4th generations using 6.0.1 and an older Mac running OS 10.5.8. I thought I knew the restrictions passcode but after 13 attempts on each ipod and numberous restorations from backups am afraid I may end up restoring but the kids will loose all their info, right? - wipes the slate completely clean and it's like a new ipod? no apps, no history etc? any help appreciated...

Thank you so much, just one or two little snafus. First I copied and pasted from your post and there was an error with the amount or unseen digits. So I went further back in posts and found a post by someone else with the info to copy and paste and this time it worked. Second, after the iPad was restored I had a very very hard time getting it to boot. I would get the apple and then it disappeared and then nothing. I then held both the on button and home button to do a hard restart and I would get the apple and then nothing. After a million times of holding both buttons, the apple finally stayed on the screen and I got the progress bar of booting up. Got into settings/notifications and finally able to get in and get rid of the restrictions with the new 1234 passcode. I did this with a iPad 2 and IOS 6.0.1🙂🙂🙂

I open iBackupBot, this is what it says:

<key>SBParentalControlsEnabled</key>

<true/>

<key>SBParentalControlsMCContentRestrictions</key>

<dict>

<key>apps</key>

<integer>1000</integer>

<key>countryCode</key>

<string>se</string>

<key>movies</key>

<integer>1000</integer>

<key>tvshows</key>

<integer>1000</integer>

Nothing about SBParentalControlsKey!

I've tried the find option, but iwon't find it. Help!

Hi ZeppoMia,

I'm getting the same "error code:-19/35/36"...

Could you please explain a bit more what you did exactly to overcome this?

"reboot" > reboot your iPhone by holding the Power and Home buttons?

"and go back to original settings" > do you mean going to "Settings" on your iPhone, then "General" > "Reset" > "Reset All Settings"?

Thanks so much in advance!
