Estimated time until full not correct

The estimated time until full is never correct on my MBP.

Discharge to, say, 60%.
Connect charger (using computer for light word processing, internal gfx).
Estimated time until full (charge), might indicate 0:30
Half an hour later charge is 85%, estimated time until full: 0:20
etc...

How come the indicator is nowhere near the real time required?

NB SMC has been reset. Battery health 97%.

Probably because the accuracy of the estimate is dependent on your continuing to impose exactly the same electrical load on the charger throughout the estimated time remaining, and that never happens. This is the same reason the estimated running time remaining on battery power that appears in the menu bar is never reliable either. You are much better off switching the menu bar display from time to percentage, which is an actual measurement, instead of an estimate baed on the instantaneous load at a given moment.
