One Click Dock Folders - Is This Doable?

I can't stand viewing any folders I drop into the dock as a list/fan/grid. I just want the folder to open in a new window. Is there any way to turn this off at all? In older OS versions, any folder you place in the dock, opens into it's own finder window with just one click of the folder. I want this feature back.

I just don't care for the bells and whistles of the fan/list/grid thing.

No, there is no way to restore that old behavior I know of. But you can right-click on any folder in the Dock and choose "open". That's close to the original behavior (being a "click and hold" rather than just a "click"). There are third-party Dock supplements and replacements available and one of those probably will have that behavior, if it's really important to you.

Regards.

Rather than dragging the target folder itself to the right side of the Dock to create the Dock icon, instead first make an alias to the target folder, tuck it away somewhere, and drag that alias to the right side of the Dock to create the Dock icon. Clicking on that Dock icon should then directly open the original target folder in the Finder, the way it used to work in older versions.
