How can I retrieve data from damaged iPhone?

Hi everyone,

My iphone 3G is dead. It does not turn on/off. I have taken the case off and in the process, ripped many of the electronic strips that connect the screen to the bottom of the phone (don't know what they're called). When I plug the phone into my computer the device does not show up.

Anyways, is it possible to get data off of the flashdrive?

Your phone should be backed up from the last time it synced with iTunes. If you get a new iPhone you can restore all the details from your old iPhone's backup to the new iPhone.

I just synced the phone on iTunes the other day (before the phone was damaged) but when I open iTunes I don't see where my files are.

Which files are you looking for?

iTunes places the backup files in the following places:

Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/

Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

What files are you looking for?

Contacts should be wherever you chose to sync them, same with calendars.

Music should be in itunes.

I am looking for voice memos, notepad and text messages.

Oddly, when I try to access the storage area for iTunes files, nothing shows up. And I am sure I synced the phone before it was damaged.

Those "files" are contained within the backup file in database format and aren't viewable as such. The backup files are located where I previously posted. There are various 3rd party apps that can extract the messages, etc., depending on your computer OS.
