Restricting access to the Mail app

Just got my iPad and i am surprised there is no way to restrict the access to the mail. The iPad is a great tool for family to play games and visualize pictures together. This is a shared device not like a phone and while family members or friends play some games, I don't want them to look at my emails or accidentally delete anything. The only option seems to use a web-browser based email like gmail. It is a big overlook from Apple in my book. Any way to send them a wish?

I have been having the same problem. I was looking at a suggestion which did not work for me then discovered a solution. It is not ideal but will work. When done with email go to settings, mail/contacts... Touch your mail account. Touch mail off. The next time you want to access email you will have to log in with your user info and password.

I never have to re-enter that data. Flip the switch and the account comes back to life.
