Ipod touch 3G is being mistaken for Iphone in Itunes

Yesterday I dropped my phone in the snow and did not find it till today. I checked the phonejack and there appears to be no water damage. The ipod started up just fine and was blinking for the battery to be charged. It only charged for a little bit and then it shut off. The screen will not turn on but it is still showing up in itunes when I connect it to the computer. However, it keeps showing up as an Iphone and asking me to restore it. when I press restore it says that "the software for this iPhone is not currently available. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes and try again." I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and it still does not work. Do anyone have any idea why it is not reading as an ipod touch?

Hello,

I have the same exact problem since 2 days, iPod won't start up, it won't restore, I see my iPod touch recognized as iPhone in itune, update is grayed out, I see the same exact message (software for this iphone not currently available) when I try to restore :s :s :s

I am trying the rice trick right now, let's hope, I've done tons of research on internet, no luck, I tried many thing, dfu, recovery etc., nothing work, if anyone can help me or tell us what is going on, would appreciate it a lot.

the problem started when I came back from the gym, it would not open (in the gym, it was working), maybe it received a little sweat but not a lot for sure

thanks,
a desperate guy ;/
my iPod is 32gb and only 1 year old, I'm frustrated and sad!

I did this yesterday and today it is now reading in the computer. The screen is barley visible but it it's restored and if i put it in just the right amount of light i can see the screen. I'm going to put it back in the bag of rice for a couple days and hopefully the screen will come back. Thank you for the link.
