If you are running 10.6.4 then you should update to 10.6.5.

Also update Safari to 5.0.3. and check your Flash Player:

The latest version of Adobe FlashPlayer can be obtained from here:

http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash

(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.

You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/865/cpsid_86551.html#prob1=uninst,os=m10.6,

and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.

Hi Jesper,

Follow the instructions at this link to delete the Flash cache.

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11672709&#11672709

And make sure you have the latest version of Flash installed.

Install the most recent version of Flash here.

Now repair permissions.

Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see any warnings re: SUID messages, they can be safely ignored, information here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?viewlocale=en_US

Hi Carolyn,

I believe I am having the same issue. When I try to watch videos on YouTube I receive the message "You need to upgrade your Adobe Flash Player to watch this video".

I am running OS 10.5.8 with Safari version 5.0.3. I have reset Safari, enabled plug-ins, and turned off extensions. I uninstalled Flash using the Adobe Flash Player Install Manager, then downloaded a new version from the Adobe site. I also deleted the Flash cache, as you recommended. I quit all applications and then installed Flash Player. I then repaired disk permissions with the Disk Utility.

When I opened Safari and tried to watch a video again, I received the same message. I noticed that the Flash Player cache had also not been recreated. When I tried to watch the video in Firefox the cache was created and the video played fine.

I've also tried simply restarting my machine, and at this point am at a loss.

Please let me know if you have any other recommendations!

I like SnakeNog am in the same boat.

Safari on one user will not recognize Flash player as even being installed. Other web browsers for the same user, no problem. Safari in other users, no problem.

Safari 5.0.3
MacOS 10.6.5
Flash uninstalled and reinstalled
repaired permissions
Deleted: ~/Library/Caches/Adobe/Flash Player ~/Library/Safari ~/Library/Preferences/(everything with Safari or Adobe

I've spent over 2 hours trying to track this down and am at a loss. Unless anyone has a suggestion I believe archiving my user and recreating it (then restoring music/pictures/documents) may be the only solution.
