Losing Resolution

I'm working on a project shot in HDV with a Canon HV40. The project is completed and looks good in the Timeline. All the video is on an external drive.

I did a couple of quick freeze fames during a camera flash, and I was happy with the result. The freeze frames look sharp and the they hold without any jitters.

I copied a portion of the video and pasted it into a new Sequence that I created within the same project. The problem is that the video is now less sharp and the freeze frames that look good in the original sequence are now jittery and have horizontal stripes of alternating resolution.

How can I copy and paste video that will maintain the original quality? Is this happening because I worked with tape?

Hi -
Just a guess, but is your original sequence (where you made the freeze frames) canvas set to something other than 100% viewing area?
And the new sequence, where you see the jittery key frames, has the canvas set to 100%?

You will only see the effect of interlacing when the canvas is set to 100%, I would wager if you return to your first sequence and set the canvas to view at 100% you will see the same jittery still frames.

The solution is to either choose video source freeze frames that contain no motion in them, or if that is not possible, go to the Effects Tab > Video Filters > Video > De-Interlace and apply the De-Interlace filter to the freeze frames on the timeline.

Hope this helps.
